I ended up ordering a 1500NEX for $400 from Best Buy. Nobody has anything in stock, and that was the cheapest HU I was willing to buy. I nearly ordered the 2660NEX for $450, which I believe is a newer model, and has a capacitive touch, but I want buttons. I don't want to be looking down to find the volume knob when traffic gets hairy and I need to turn it down. I also didn't find a lot of reviews.
Perhaps a little ironic, I read that the Spotify control on the old 2300NEX was broke by Spotify's latest updates. I'm sure CarPlay would still work, but I did like the Spotify control a lot.
Probably goes without saying, but I met my girlfriend online. I won't say specifically where, but it was a forum and it had general conversation type section that included a mental health area. In one thread, lot of people were saying "You just need to get out more", "Exercise helps a lot, get out for walks, runs or bike rides", and just a lot of the usual stuff that works for people with situational depression. I wrote out a whole diatribe about how anxiety and depression can be as debilitating as a broken leg, and it's not just about feeling sad or down, and basically that not everyone can just walk it off. When she read it, she wrote me to thank me for speaking up and that she could relate with what I said. That expanded into more and we basically became best friends. We both also struggled with our jobs. We just talked and supported each other, found we had a lot in common.
Things just naturally progressed with my gf. There's been a lot of ups and downs, due to the distance and the pandemic. We met a couple times before the pandemic, in Nov 2019 and Feb 2020, just 5-6 days each time. Those two trips weren't enough to really solidify our relationship, but enough that we couldn't give up. We needed more time together. I was finally able to fly over at the end of August and had 18 days together. Second trip was also 18 days. The first trip was enough that we made it official and told everybody. We just don't know what our future looks like yet. She needs to meet my kids, mom and sisters, etc... Lots of questions and unknowns, which is scary and stressful, but it feels so right.
I can't wait for her to get here. I'm wishing I didn't have those autocross tires on the T/A, because it's looking like it may be too cold to drive it to Chicago next week.
