When my car only had a lid on it I ran a kid with an LS6 cammed camaro and lost by only a few lengths.

meh, with the time spent in doing this, mise well make it worth your while and do something more aftermarket. You probably wouldnt be all that pleased with the results doing an ls6 cam. IMO, do an off the shelf cam that people have gotten proven numbers with in their street cars, build the valvetrain around that cam.

even the original Yella's are less prone to do this than some others. depends on lift, springs, rpm, vavle size/weight.
Just about all the rocker people have had a few design changes to get weight off the tip.

Livernois had(maybe still has) a set of very lightly used Jesel non adustable ls1rockers for sale.$250 They would be on my car right now if I had the money.
A ls6 cam may pick up 10-15 hp. I would go with a 224 siize cam. Anything much bigger would be a dog without gears, convertor and such

Yea I'm looking at this from a cost perspective, i can find a complete LS6 cam/valvetrain swap for $150

My LS1 i have now has 188K, by the time next winter gets here it will have over 200K so its going to be getting tired soon, I was going to find a low mile LS1 but i figured while its out might as well do a few things

I will keep my eyes out on LS1tech

Also, used cams, is that a smart thing to do or is it one of those things you should buy new?

I don't see anything wrong with buying a used cam. Make sure the seller is trustworthy + knows how many miles are on the cam. I'd also make sure they had a cam card or serial number with the cam. You could then contact the company and indeed make sure the cam is correct using that number.

dude do it right and do it once, if your worried about gas milage and it being a d/d then dont drive a v8

a big cam isn't gonna be d/d friendly

a low mile ls1 is gonna be what 1500

i got my lq9 block for 100 bucks
you could buy just stock parts and save alot of money and spend it on heads and a cam and a intake

either way you go it wont be cheap

my 408 will be somewhat of a d/d only warm summer days but still

you gotta find a combo that works together look on ls1 tech for the dyno results

my buddy bought the trickflow top end kit from summit if he gets a stall and good tires he'll be running maybe 11's

tho thats far from a 500 budget
              i think his was 3k

the stock ls1 lifter replacement are now ls7 from what i've been reading

they are only like 120 shipped
              get a ls2 chain
              ls6 oil pump
              stock rockers

also a nice t/b to swap would be the lq4, its a cable driven 80mm
not alot of people know that

just because its a V8 doesnt mean it has to suck down gas...

I can get a good 50K ls1 long block for well under 1K

                  Personal Preference

LS1 block is about 80lbs lighter than LQ9.
LS1 blocks cost about $300 more than LQ9
                  LQ9 is already a 6.0L...
                  its all PERSONAL PREFERENCE....
would you rather spend less and increase weight a little...?
