  • Is it cammed? Stall'd? Normal? F-ed up?

My 94 TA LT1 A4 runs great and has lots of power....

However, it seems to have ALL it's power above 3.5-4K rpms, and 2-3.5K is pretty damn dead, it revs but it doesn't really go anywhere fast...

I was told it has a monster transmission rebuild kit and transgo shift kit but I dont think any of those would be the culprit. The guy said it has "camS but based on that statement, i dont think he knows what he's talking about.

I've never driven a LT1, cammed or stalled car so I dont have anything to compare it to...

so is this normal for the Lt1? or is it modified or is something wrong?

ive always heard that the LT1s had more low end torque then our LS1s.

I figured going from V6 to V8 it would have lots of low end, but 2K to 3.5 is almost literally a dead zone...maybe I'm just not used to it idk

any LT1 guys help me out?

What is it like driving a cam'd or stall'd car? I have no idea

if it was stalled you would be skipping straight to the upper rpms or whatever the stall rating is, so i don think its that. based on what youve said it sounded like he could have a top end cam in it.. only way to really tell is take it apart which is a waste or get it dyno'ed.

Eh, I suppose it could have a 3K stall in it...can you call the previous owner and get some clarification?

The previous owner did not do any of the work, he bought it like this...

I cannot find out what is in it, he does not have any numbers to call which is frusterating...

I guess one way to find out is taking it to the track and seeing...

the funny thing is, it doesn't have headers...who would cam an engine and not put on headers?

I know the trans has been rebuilt so maybe they put a stall in? If you floor it, it will rev really high, i dont want to push it past 6K but it will easily do that, it revs really fast at high rpms...idk

i'm confused...anyone want to come drive it and tell me? lol

I doubt the track will tell you much.

You may be able to pull the cover plate on the trans and take a look at the converter and (hopefully) see if there's any identification there.

I'm guessing that either you have a bigger than stock stall in there, or the trans is going bad ...

But I doubt the latter is happening...maybe some of the newer tech guys can offer some opinions.

Humm, never looked at stock dyno graphs but the runner design of the two motors, the LS1 should have more low speed torque due to the longer runner.

Actually (at the risk of venturing out of my carbuerated cave), I think Turbo is right...I think the LT1s made more low end torque than the LS motors.

                        Joel will know.

Could be...I'm just going off theory here....I know TPI motors where such low speed torque monsters because of their extremely long intake runners.....that and shitty cams

LT1s do in fact have more grunt down low proven by dyno. minimal however. overall/total torque the LS1 has more.
