Our goal was to create a more close-knit community of FBody enthusiasts in the state of Michigan, and to bring Camaro and Firebird enthusiasts alike together for some amazing FBody events!

Surprise!, new mustang wins comparo against srt8 and SS
Don't care what the article says, the Camaro is still the better car, and the LS motors have way more potential than the Fords. I drove a new SS 6-speed last week with a supercharged LS7 - 850 HP / 900+ ft lbs.. pure insanity - that idles smooth and quiet at 650 rpm. Just remember, Ford is laying all their cards on the table, while the new Z28 is still in the works ... and watching! - I kinda think Chevy is going to have the trump card on this one. Don't fret, the folks at GM have no intention of finishing second.

Exactly. And while GM can't shave too much weight easily, they can increase HP and gas mileage rather easily.
I heard that the 2011 V6 would be tweaked just for the sake of beating the Mustang V6's HP and MPG numbers (although probably by the slimmest of margins). MT's always been in the Mustang's corner no matter what, so the outcome of this comparo doesn't surprise me in the least. I was surprised the Challenger finished before the Camaro, since they've ranked the SRT8 behind the SS in previous comparisons.
I think the current Camaro is rather impractical and somewhat cartoonish, but it doesn't matter. It's a hit. It's outsold the Mustang ever since it came out, and that's all it has to do for right now. Don't forget that this is the second "New Mustang." The 2005 model was somewhat underpowered and had a chintzy interior, but it sold like hotcakes. In light of new competition, the updated Mustang could no longer sell only on its name and retro looks--it needed the whole package. The Camaro's in the same boat right now. The current formula is working quite well for them, so why would they mess with it? But that current formula is only going to carry them so far, and I'm sure they know that. The next model will have to be lighter, the interior materials will have to be higher-quality and more useable, and the exterior styling made to look like less of a caricature. But for the meantime, I don't think any immediate, major changes are needed.

Look at the power to weight ratio . . . they are getting a lot of ponies out of that 302. Yeah, the GM V8 has more overall horsepower . . . but if you need a lot bigger engine to do it, you're already behind in the weight game and it's that much harder to catch up.
And don't forget, it was the 2005 Mustang's out-of-the-park success with the public that convinced GM they could still sell pony cars . . . otherwise there might never have been a 5th gen, or a Challenger either.
Personally, I'm just glad to see the hp wars continuing strong . . . if Mustang outsells Camaro this year, then GM will be that much more motivated to come back with something even better to get back on top. And who benefits from all this competition? US!!

Car&Driver battle had 13.0 1/4 for the SS, 13.2 for the 5.0 stang (both 6-speed manuals). They thought it would smoke the Camaro, but blamed the smaller tires and an extra shift (3.73's) for the stang.

I still dont understand why the mustang doesnt come with wider rear tires.

I dont care what car it is GM, Ford, Toyota....shit always breaks a 40,000 mile more warranty is a huge advantage.
