Wanting to borrow a 5th gen.

Hey guys...I am dying to wash and wax one of these monsters...and I just wanna see one up close, and drive one :] so I was wondering if anyone would be crazy enough to let me borrow or even rent a new camaro for my senior prom hehe...I am an absolute camaro fanatic and I've driven my 96 v6 camaro to way too many dances...just a dream I would love to have come true...I know it's nerdy :]

You might be able to get one of your parents to rent one for you, I know Avis has them. Hertz has 2010 Corvette ZHZ Coupes and Convertibles, might look into that as well. My Dad was going to rent a Cadillac for me to drive to my Senior Prom, but that one got shot down by Mom. It's all good though, because that year, somebody else borrowed his Uncle's '06 Viper, tried to show off to his friends, and parked it in a ditch.

If it were me, I wouldn't let you borrow it, but that's because it's only been a few years since I was in your shoes, and I know how I'd be driving a car like that. And, you are asking a group of people who know that F-Bodies are more than just cars, they are a way of life.

I didn't want to sound like an ***hole, but I think that may be what I accomplished. We might be the exception, however, because I won't let anyone but my Mom drive my Firebird, and that's mostly because she's been helping Dad take care of it while I've been gone. She only takes it around the block maybe once or twice a month (to prevent flat spots), but she knows if she needs it, she can drive it.

There are people out there that view 5th gen's as nothing more than cars, and that is the kind of people the OP needs to be asking. They would be a little more apt to say "Well, I'll have to think about it" or "No", rather than an F-Body Enthusiast such as myself, who would likely say "HAHAHAHAHHAAHAHHHAHAHAA!", "You're kidding, right?", or "Hell no."

That, I suppose, is the reason many HS males pick up their dates in either a family member's car, their own car, or they blow the money on a limousine.

If you are looking for a *ahem* "good time", you should DEFINITELY get your hands on a nice SUV or the biggest sedan you can find. These guys ^^^ are right, girls really don't give a rat's behind about what you're driving, and if they are willing to do things like that just because you're driving around in a big shiny **** with wheels, they aren't generally the kind of people you are going to be wanting to let anywhere near the head you're thinking with. . .

I had a girl walk up to me and BEG me to give her a ride in my Formula. So, me being the kind, generous person I am, I obliged. She asked me out about 8 times after that, and made it no secret that it was all because of the car.

I let my nephew borrow my Nova to take to his High School prom. He was stopping for a traffic light and a double bottom dump truck didn't stop. Needless to say, the rear bumper ended up a even with the back window. Although it wasn't his fault, my car was totalled and he didn't have any money to replace it. Lesson learned.

I took my IROC, but I didn't have a date, and prom sucked anyways (for those with or without dates). The parking lot had craters in it, and it was a damn slalom course to avoid them.

On the positive side, I drove there with the t-tops off, and the cutout open!

It's all about how responsible someone is. Just because you're dubbed a high schooler doesn't mean you're irresponsible. My car will whoop on a 5th gen and most anything else, but I have yet to get in trouble with it just because I don't do foolish shit where you're not supposed to. I've been given the chance to drive a 5th gen, and I did. But at the end of the day, it's just a brand new car, anyone can buy one. Take your own car that has value to you.
