At 6AM tomorrow (Monday) morning, GM will file for Ch. 11 bankruptcy. And GM isn't done downsizing yet...I know so many people that are just getting crushed by the entire auto industry tanking...this whole ordeal has been one of the saddest times of my life...

Considering that we are waging wars in two places right now, I'm sure vehicles are necessary. How feasible would it be to halt domestic production and use the plants that would otherwise close to build vehicles necessary to the military? This would keep these plants open, the workers employed and perhaps pull us (and GM) out of this downturn. Just a thought.

One thing I learned back in grade school (or at least they told me) is that war is supposed to be good for the economy. I think the problem came when the government started playing with money that just didn't exist. Like the old addage "chickens before they hatched". I had read somewhere that the Iraq war was costing somewhere in the area of 1 billion per day. That's insane, without any plan of recouperation.
But yeah, with the money spent, there's just not enough in order to invest. Very sad. What happened to the FDRs and Trumans, or at least someone with a clear and concise plan?

I don't think I would mind a shift into producing military vehicles as long as people could get jobs and they let me have a tank for my trouble. Can you all see it? A Red and Black camouflage Abrams tank!

Atleast their still keeping some of the factories open. My father in law works at the Bay City plant and he's laid off for the next 2 months.They where just talking about shutting the plant down.
