honestly this lack of roll down rear windows is extremely high on the list of things that bug me about this car, in fact id say it is the #1 thing. Ive gotten over many of my other gripes but i think sacrificing t-tops for safety is irritating enough, and frankly not even that bothers me as much. Theres no blunt indicator that "this car was designed to have t-tops but doesnt." this fixed window follows the lines of a hard top and stares you right in the face.

I didnt like it from the start when i saw the exterior shots. and I REALLY REALLY didnt like it when I got to sit in the car, and observe that the B-pillar was the size of a small girder, with the window recessed so far back in from the interior panels that you practically cant see anything out of it from the driver's position anyway.

Completely.... worthless... windows... Gov regulations completely ruined that part of the car.

I dont think i could tolerate owning one like that. I'd just keep looking back and forth between the window and my sledge/sawzall.

I hope someone makes a kit. If i had money for a 5th gen id spend a couple grand fixing that shit. It completely destroys the experience for any back seat cruisers.

The government messes everything up. All the time.

It's the reason we don't have T-tops. Everything has to be so god damn safe, BUT needs to get 34i84632848364732648763746384827458426376 miles to the gallon. Well, when your car weighs 46827364284623864283764 tons because of all the safety equipment and what not, you can't attain it.

GM shoulda said **** it and done it anyways. I'd still buy it. I don't need 6 god damn air bags.

My only issue with the car is the exhaust noise level, the fact there is none...also a federal mandate on how loud it can be from the factory. Total bullshit. You're buying a V8 car, and you want it to be super quiet? Get your priorities straight.

yeahhh...except for the fact that GM took a few bucks from the government, so... they kinda have to play by the rules

              Ugh. Yeah.

They never should have...it's almost as if the government wants them to fail...are they INSANE?

                  i don't think that's quite it...

the government is growing, and by that i mean, trying to get their hands into everything they can. power is addictive. if they see an opportunity to discreetly give themselves more power, even if it's just a little here or there, they'll take it. it is inevitable really.

                    Honestly,

I think its a matter of time before a "sensible safety" special interest group pops up that speaks against rediculous safety legislature.

Safety needs to be improved by design, not added weight, and loss of functionality. There is a false assumption that progression of safety is linear. If people keep thinking this way, we'll be driving 8000 pound freighters that STILL get 30 mpg in 10 years.

Top gear already proved it. Todays engines in an "unsafe" 80's car = 70 MPG with no expensive hybrid drive.

I mean, think what the V6 Camaro would get if it didn't have 6,000 air bags, and weighed about 500 pounds less...Good god...

                        how about 1000 pounds less?

Cars are meant to move people and a few of their belongings. 800 pounds of weight or so max, assuming a coupe like this. do you really need 4000 pounds of iron to go get a few groceries?

No, you don't. And if you think you do then you are one of those degenerative members of society who doesn't care to stop the 'tragedy of the commons' in which everyone must have a bigger vehicle than the next person, just to be safer than them. (cause of the SUV craze)

The thing about rubber tires as a material is that (from what I observe) they tend to exponentially lose efficiency/generate more friction the more weight is put on them. Imagine the friction coefficient a model T had compared to todays cars.

Greenies actually have the right idea as crazy as many of them are. many safety lobbyists, do not. [not all]

Granted this is all just my personal opinion and wont stop me from working in safety as a career if thats where i happen to end up.

But you forgot to mention that Model Ts also got 40+ mpg...and some cars from the teens/20s (Cadillac for one...when Cadillac was the "economy" car) got 70+ mpg...

                              true dat

on the contrary to everything Ive said here, we can literally THANK epa regulation for keeping safety somewhat in check. can you imagine what kind of tanks we would be building if we didnt care at all about efficiency right now???

There's even more suppliers than that. It is ridiculous how many parts come together to make a car and how many of those parts come from different companies. And what that diagram doesn't show is the suppliers of the suppliers that make the parts for the camaro. Think about that, even bearings and bolts get outsourced.
