  • Global Impact of Camaro Parts suppliers

A cool diagram was posted on Camaro5 showing all the different vendors that are used to make the new Camaro.

Panasonic makes the radio, Checker Motors (the taxi company) makes the windshield surround, American Axle, Mitsubishi, etc... very interesting I thought.

Just shows how much of a ripple effect there would be if GM went under.

Yup, it's like an auction when a new car build happens.

Generally the lowest price wins so you get a ton of company's in the mix.

            No, they're definitely not, Joel.

But wow, it's crazy to see all the suppliers that are used in the 2010 Camaro!

interesting - it would appear that at onetime there was a plan for the qtr glass in the coupes to retractable?

I seen that earlier. Pretty cool to see how many companies can come together to make a car like the Camaro come together.

They are - there's a control on the driver's side that allows for all 4 windows to go down.

Uhm...no they don't...practically impossible to even retrofit given the angle of the door and door glass...

And that list is just the tip of the iceberg...there are dozens more...

final production Camaro side panels (including qtr panel, b-pillar and a-pillar) are a single stamp process, the glass is epoxy sealed to the outside of qtr window housing lip.

...lol...I was actually just trying to look at it and see how/if the window could actually swing out of the way as the actuator moved downwards and the b-pillars removed...it can be done, but it's on a complex angle and you'd have to verify packaging to the wheelwell...the door line gap going up into the glass makes it exceedingly difficult.

It would essentially have to move rearward and down at a near 45 degree angle...definitely not desireable...actual window travel would be stupid long...but, in theory, it could be done...

during training i asked the a similar question (i asked why they didn't offer a retractable qtr glass on the coupes) and was told the b-pillars were necessary for structural integrity - thats why i found interesting that the vendor picture shows that at some point they were a consideration

Yep, agreed, good to see they were at least trying to think outside the box...and it still could have been done if they went to a welded in b-pillar...but that would have been big $$$...and likely quality problems...

Or like the guy on camaro5 said..."that option is only on the Z28"...lol...
