it is a dead horse but i dont get it either.

i hope the convertible might provide some of the necessary parts to at least convert a "coupe" to a coupe though

It's pretty simple, really. They simply did not design the vehicle for t-tops because they wanted that 5-star crash rating which means side curtain air bags. That's the entire thing in a nut shell. If it weren't for the side curtain air bags and having the main side structure of the vehicle being all one piece from front fender all the way to the tail light, it wouldn't have been such a big deal to do the t-tops, but once you cut that metal brace out you're compromising what was designed as the main structure of the vehilce.

I see your point but the vert had to have lost just as much structural strength by cutting the roof off so if they had to add extra braces in the chassis to offset this way couldnt they just do the same thing to a T-top car and make it an option?

Im sure they can do it theres no way having no roof at all is safer then having a partial roof Id think it has to do with the extra cost it takes to reinforce the chassis to have no roof.Howmany people would really pay just as much for t-tops as a vert I would but Id say most would just buy the vert

reinforced frames on vert models has been the norm since their reintroduction in the 80's

and yes i think youre correct that the reintroduction of the vert in the 80's did start the downfall of the T-top car

I agree but I think there's the whole cost to benefit ratio. Reinforcing the car for the convertible, like Todd said, is a given if you're going to have a convertible model. But, the reinforcement is only going to be on those convert models - why do it across the line because that'd be added weight and cost for the reinforcement, right? So if they reinforce for the convert, reinforce for the t-top, and not reinforce for the coupe, then you have an additional model to add to the lineup and I don't think GM would want that right now.

I agree I would rather have a T-top car but for the extra cost 90% of people are going to pick the vert

Oh ok yea, i definitely want side curtain explosive devices next to my face more than t-tops LOL.

                      thanks NHTSA!

That actually doesnt look as bad as I thought it would. Well from the concept the verts were but ugly.. this one does have some potential!

Thank you Holden! The convertible looks great. I was staring at the UG models for those rear quarters about 4 months ago when they were coming in from Australia.
