Oh, yeah, the cost is another issue. GM is finally able to start reducing pricing a tiny bit, I mean, comparatively when related to quality... But still, all this Union bullshit has GOT to stop. Oh, we want $50 to push a button, not the $30 (or whatever, it's still too much) we get now. Oh, and we also want 100% vacation, so we can press it at home - and someone else to push it. Bullshit. You'll get $12.50. Healthcare is getting out of hand, and that's not the Big 3's fault, but the government has to step in to get these prices down. I mean, we all complained about gas-price gouging, look at healthcare...

current UAW employees at Delphi make at the top end 18.00 an hour. The vert is on hold for now due to the fact that GM needs to keep it's liquid funds in order to have a chance at survinging and for every line of new cars that is put out, it reduces the liquid funds. There are a couple lines that are actually being haulted for awhile.
It's very scary what the future holds for the big three, and what some people joke about around the office is that ford chrysler and gm will merge to become AMC. But I hope that the automotive companies will pick back up and thrive again. I don't want to picture a world without gm or ford.sigpic

yea very true, this is going to be an interesting next few years to see where the country goes, its all a cycle so we are bound to pull out of it, I know for MI the big 3 really needs to make some changes, and ones most people wont like, just like delaying the convertable.Originally posted by MP81 View PostOh, yeah, the cost is another issue. As soon as the Union is gone, so do GM's crappy profit numbers. Its ok though, let them fail. Once they have failed, we can place blame on the Union, and try it again with out a union. I dont see why GM factory workers are "worth more" then factory workers anywhere else.1998 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 - 6 Speed

I was reading a few posts and I find some of the comments pretty interesting, especially regarding to efficiency, quality, and cost. I'm not necessarily on UAW's side, but they did sign up for VEBA, which reduce a lot of liability (now the big 3 just got to fund it). As for stating Big 3 is inefficiency, I cannot speak for Ford or Chrysler, but what do you base your efficiency of GM compare to other automakers from? CNN? Fox? Other news, or Harbour Report? What are you using as a measure minutes per hour of a person working, or hours per vehicle? Most GM plants are on par if not, more efficient than its competitors. Before Moraine's shutdown was announced, it was the most efficient mid-size SUV plant compare even to Toyota. As far quality, it's more of a mixed bag, but the Big 3 is still on par. If the big 3 do "fail," it's not going to be temporary, no one buy cars from a bankrupt company, it's not like the airline. Also, the ramification if a lot more than most people can imagine. More than just losing the Camaro convertible.

just basing overall business from a current prof who worked with top management at GM a few years back. I suppose the efficiency variations between companies arent as bad as the costs associated with performing tasks threw excessive wages as stated by kyle, i sort of worded it wrong when stating overall efficiency, its more the grand scale of everything combined it seems.Originally posted by willasc View PostI was reading a few posts and I find some of the comments pretty interesting, especially regarding to efficiency, quality, and cost. Uhm, isn't this old news?
GM stopped development testing on the vert some 3+ months ago...at the very least it would be significantly delayed, if not cancelled...Originally posted by Redd8407I WANT NOISE! SPEED!
