  • 2010 Camaro or C5 Z06

My girlfriend was asking me if I was going to buy a new Camaro when I can afford one (probably not for another 1-2 years). I began the debate with my friend over getting a new LS3 6-speed manual Camaro or a used C5 (2002-2004) Z06 corvette. As much as I love camaro's I might lean toward a used Z06. I have driven plenty of Z06's and the power to weight ratio and handling are too hard to pass.

    My thoughts:

    Z06
Pro's: 405hp, great handling, used prices in the low-mid 20's, good mpg.
Con's: 2 seats, used (potential problems), certainly only a summer car.

    Camaro
Pro's: 420hp, great looks, new car warranty, financing, newer technology.
Con's: worse mpg, HEAVY, probably over $30k, only a summer car.

The Z06 is certainly faster and the camaro will never catch up to it in handling but the Camaro has its own new image and looks great.

    What would you guys pick?

    Depends.

Would you ever need to haul around more than 2 people? Or drive it in the winter?

    If so, Camaro.

But as much as I love the new Camaro, it's not really a comparison to the Vette, which has always been what GM considered the case.

I'd get the Z06 as the fun car, then wait a little while and get a Camaro as your DD.

      I'd probably go Z06.

But as neither one of them would be DDs for me, in the end I'd say "neither" and get a 1st or 2nd gen...easier to unload if I got bored with it...and appreciates in value rather than depreciates...

Hands down C5. Wouldn't even have to be a ZO6 either. I think the new Camaro looks horrible. Although, if I was going to drop 25-30k on another sports car I'd rather get a C3 and put in an LS2/6spd

I guess another option would be to keep my Z28 that I have now and just buy a base C5 next year. I guess it would depend on what kind of deal I could find next year on a base C5 or Z06.

Either way it is a tough decision between a used vette or new camaro, I wouldn't drive either one in the winter since I don't even drive my camaro in the winter now. I always have my truck or jeep for the winter.

Buy used....unless you have money to throw away. New cars depreciate too fast....especially domestic cars.

That was one of my thoughts. I certainly don't have money to throw away, I won't even be able to afford a used vette until next year.

No contest for me. I have no desire to own a Corvette, what-so-ever.

Camaro FTW! With having a family a 2 seater corvette will just not do.

Camaro ftw! Vette's are too expensive to repair. My dad's learning that 1.
