Honestly I would have to say C5. Red or black!

I began the debate with my friend over getting a new LS3 6-speed manual Camaro or a used C5 (2002-2004) Z06 corvette. As much as I love camaro's I might lean toward a used Z06. I have driven plenty of Z06's and the power to weight ratio and handling are too hard to pass.

      My thoughts:

      Z06
Pro's: 405hp, great handling, used prices in the low-mid 20's, good mpg.
Con's: 2 seats, used (potential problems), certainly only a summer car.

      Camaro
Pro's: 420hp, great looks, new car warranty, financing, newer technology.
Con's: worse mpg, HEAVY, probably over $30k, only a summer car.

The Z06 is certainly faster and the camaro will never catch up to it in handling but the Camaro has its own new image and looks great.

      What would you guys pick?

I can't honestly say that I have ever seen anything less than a base C5 Corvette go for less than $20k, a Z06 is probably high 30's - 40's.

New Camaro all the way! The Z06 is cool but man that new Camaro is awesome and it would go nicely with the LSX IROC!

I think he's talking a year or two down the road...prices will have dropped a bit by then.

Yes, I know all about them, thanks though. I really want a 6-speed manual. I use to have a 2002 Z28 with the 6-speed and now my auto just isn't the same.

I have owned 3 4th gen f-bodies and I have driven many performance cars including vipers and z06 vettes (haven't driven a C6 Z06 yet but they are way out of my price range). The C5 Z06 is the only car that I could honestly say that I like everything about it stock, not to say I wouldn't mod it for more power, but every other car I have driven has always needed mods right away just to get it to drive like a real sports car.

I am interested to see how well the 5th gen camaro's handle as well as how they respond to mods. The LS3 motors in the vettes are making 500rwhp with a cam, headers, tune, and intake.

You guys are crazy I see tons of C5 Zo6s going for mid 20K and they are better than a new Camaro in every aspect IMO.
                Doing less with more
