do you think this would be discussed if the information was already released? if you can answer the question via a cited reputable source, feel free to do so.

The 1967 Z28 was not even badged as such, they didn't start badging Z28s with a Z28 Badge until 1968. The cowl induction hood was not available until 1969, which means it was never on a 67 or 68 coming out of the factory Z28 or not.Originally posted by JoeliusZ28 View Post.......
as far as the Z28 being a sleeper, when was it ever a sleeper besides fourth gens? never. both first and early second gens had front and rear spoilers, and racing racing stripes, along with optional cowl hoods (not sure about the hoods on 2nd). Even after that Z28s always appeared different, theres no need for me to go into detail......
As for 2nd gen in 1974 for instance if you ordered a camaro with the z28 & the Type LT package. The type LT Package trumped the Z28 emblem right off the car.

There are reasons that people who know cant tell and also reasons within GM to ensure enough false information is spread to keep people guessing.
Typically, people are on a need to know basis, if you dont need to know, you wont know the truth.
for example, the reason the Corvette SS rumors kept alive is because everyone who worked on the program refered to this as the corvette SS except for those who needed to know it was going to be called the ZR1

Side note, I do like the idea of the Z28 being a low option car with all the power. And I think the Z28 is a bit of a sleeper. A lot of people discount them as slower, especially cocky SS owners. I surprised more than one with my 99. Course the main reason for that was the performance axle option that gave it the aluminum driveshaft and 3.23 gears. Made a big difference.

agreed. I think they could use the Z28 badge for what the 1LE package was on the fourth gens, and it could be an affordable, performance oriented car while the SS could be the higher production version with the same power plant and more luxuries. having an actual badge for it would help them retain their value much better too.Originally posted by Orange Terror View Post

and yea the 2.73/auto Z28s (either LT1 or LS1) were often dogs...
jon managed a high 13 out of his bone stock LT1, which i thought was pretty good for basically doing the 1/4 in 2 gears. waiting for that 50 mph shift point can get boring

Actually that happened only in 1973, Gary. They "fixed" that for 1974. Look all you want mine has it too, Emblem or not it does not change the fact that there was NO Z28 model in 88-90 only a IROC-Z. Just so you know I am at home and have all the books sitting right here. We could also talk about how the Z28 was only a Option package until 1976. It didn't become a MODEL until 1977.Western Michigan Camaro Club ~ President
