All the Modern cars have remote shifters and this is where the problem starts.
The engine torques one way while the body torques the other. It makes for a very vague feel when trying to shift in a performance type situation. My Mustang would lock you out of gears which made shifting the car frustrating. The MGW shifter solved all the problems and eliminated all the shortcomings of the stock unit. Now the car feels just like the shifter is mounted to the trans... even though it's not. Though I'm not as familiar with the 5th Gen setup I'm sure it has similar issues.
Alot of this has to do with the Electronic Throttle Lag.Originally posted by my95z28 View PostGet back into the gas just a hair quicker b. It will be much smoother if you already have the rpms coming up just a hair when you start to re-engage the clutch
IMO why let off the gas at all ? with practice you can do powershifts even at part throttle.CraigSemi Retired Street Racer2012 Lava Red Mustang GT 5.0 MT82GONE BUT NOT FORGOTEN

I think what makes it hard to do the 1-2 shift on the v6 Camaro is that there is the reverse gate that you're brushing against while you shift. If you look at the picture of that composite knob above you'll see the pattern. So when I shift from 1-2 I usually keep pushing the knob to the left so I brush the reverse gate and then snap into 2nd.
Installed the stock shifter again. Figured while I was in there I should take some pictures of the shifter assembly. Obviously you're not going to see much because it's almost entirely underneath the car or hidden under dust boots. But I did want to show how many layers of insulation are in here and it's still loud as ****. What you can't see is underneath the first foam layer is namebrand Dynomat.

And the stock shift knob reinstalled. Definitely shorter than the composite race knob.

Thats what I ment but didnt want to type it all out lol.
I feel as though the newer systems take the personality out of transmission...the whole reason you probably went with a manual to begin with.1998 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 - 6 Speed

So your not using the short shifter now? Or did you mean you put the stock knob back on.

A performance car without a true manual trans is just wrong IMO.

Just the stock knob - still using the entire short throw shifter assembly.
Here's what the MGW Short Throw looks like:

Compared to the stock shifter assembly - although this is a Hurst shifter so it may be a shorter rod than stock:

Just curious if the stick can be rotated in different positions without clearance/boot fitment issues.
I personally would like it as close to me as possible.CraigSemi Retired Street Racer2012 Lava Red Mustang GT 5.0 MT82GONE BUT NOT FORGOTEN

Yeah - it can be rotated 360 from what the MGW guy told me. When I had it installed as the stock photo shows, the shifter was against the shifter dash plate when in 2nd, 4th, or 6th. It really didn't hurt anything, but my OCD didn't like that the knob was centered when it was in 3rd gear and I wanted it to be centered when in neutral so I swapped it 180* when I put the race composite knob on last night. Now that I'm back to the stock shifter, I'll see how it feels tomorrow. If it makes me feel like I'm still reaching far out to shift into 3rd or 5th I'll probably just put it back to the way the stock photo shows.Originally posted by 9T8W66 View PostThis photo shows the stick attached in a reverse position compared to your unit.

Huge thank you to @dhgasman55 for such an amazing deal on his set of 18" Moda rims with Pirelli Scorpion winter tires!

My dad and I drove over to Lansing this morning and picked them up. Dave also threw in the WeatherTech molded floor mats (which my mom will love on her Camaro, as I already have a set), and a box of oil that he didn't need either
Immediately went over to Discount Tire with Clifford and had the Pirelli Scorpion tires mounted to the stock steelies and then my stock tires mounted to the 18" Moda rims. So happy that they're all the same size so no adjustments necessary!

Also -- as an update on the Duplicolor Tire Coat -- the tires had residue from them mounting the stock tires to these 18" Moda rims so I had to wipe the tires down with a sponge while I cleaned the rims. The shine is still there once wiped off, but you CAN see some "browning" on the last pic that's sideways which I think is from the "stretching" of the tire paint. I'm 100% positive that if I spray a layer of tire coat over it that the brown will go away, but I don't want to ruin the longevity test to see how long the paint will last.Last edited by meissen; June 29th, 2013, 04:53 PM.- Brian Meissen
