  • keep me posted on what you do with the short throw, I've been wanting one for my car but have kept away from it because I am currently experiencing trans issues and don't want the dealer to be able to use the short throw as an excuse for those when I go to get it serviced . Gotta wait til the summer when I can switch to driving my TransAm to get my trans looked at.

btw have you seen the new 2013s with the 7" touch screens, might be something to upgrade to at some point.

    • My understanding is upgrading/retrofitting to the MyLink is really expensive. Like over $1000 expensive.

Here's the videos which go into detail on what needs to be done to install the short throw -- doesn't look too bad in the videos.

          • MGW Short Throw Shifter installed over the weekend. I love the way it shifts now - able to granny rip through the gears a lot better now. I still call it granny rip because compared to Joel I shift like an old woman. I still suck 1-2 shifting, but with the new shifter it's a little better.

I'm not sure how I feel about this $75 composite racing shift knob. I liked it because it looked smaller and sleeker than the stock shift knob, but it's definitely taller than the stock knob which seems to kind of kill the point of the *short* throw shifter. I still have the stock knob that I can throw back on if I don't like it - figured I'd try it for a day and see how it feels. It only takes a few zip ties around the boot to change from one to the other. I'll see how I like it tomorrow.

            • Is thats your change left over from the purchase?

Looks good though. I love short throw shifters when I pulled certain cars out the bays.

                • I'm not either. For $75 I expected a little more... I'm going to be returning it or selling it. After driving into work today, I don't like how it feels at all. Back to the stock leather knob.

Don't blame you. I'd go back to the stock one too. Looks cheap and cheesy to me. Can't believe you paid $75 for it probably could have got a similar one at Pepboys for $5.99.

                    • The 1-2 shift is the easy one! Keep pressure to the left and rip that ***** back!

2-3 is probably the toughest at WOT

I dont see how so? I have driven enough newer manual cars to still ask how can you suck at a 1-2 shift.

                            • I'm not very good at doing a 1-2 shift particularly smoothly (i.e., without the car lurching a bit), but the action itself is easy...

Yeah, that's it in a nut shell. 1-2 shift is hard to do without the car jerking unless I rev it to the moon (5000rpm range). If I shift around 3k it'll jerk. I'm not talking WOT shifting, I'm talking around town shifting. That's actually why I primarily took off from 2nd gear all the time... especially since 1st gear is so useless in the 5th gen v6... To shift around 3k means you're shifting around 10mph.. 2-3 shift is REALLY easy in the 5th gen v6, I can bang that one real quick.
