  • Definitely liking the new stripes! It's nicely accented, but far from overdone. Very well balanced!

    • Thanks everyone! It's probably all I'll do for awhile. Admittedly I bounce around from idea to idea.

Part of me would like to have RS headlights and fog lights. Part of me would like to put an exhaust on it. The other part of me wants a better sound system. After driving the CTSv, I forgot what it was like having GOOD speakers. Even when I turned down the volume in the CTSv, the bass was enough to lightly vibrate the side mirrors. I missed that. I'm not going to lie - I was drooling over this guy's install:

With the Camaro being a daily driver, having the navigation and upgraded stereo would be really nice... if it were easier I'd actually just look into putting the carPC from Red Alert into Clifford.

But, unless I poop out a diamond or I get a branch from someone's money tree - it ain't going to be happening anytime soon.

      • Long time since I've updated this thread. I'm planning on picking up a short throw shifter for it in the coming weeks. Unfortunately the MGW shifter I want to get takes about 6.5 hours to install...

                  • I could never figure out what the purpose was with that. Anymore, it seems that just installing an integrated mounting spot for an iPad would be better than a PC in a car.

Kevin - did you see the 7" tablet install in the C6? It's in the electronics section on LS1Tech.

I am HEAVILY considering this. They have them for $170 refurbished. My car already runs a 5 channel amp. I think it'd be a fairly straightforward install for me. Basically can get a damn near fully integrated system for peanuts and have a ton of flexibility.

Benefit of the tablet would be hands free calling, up-to-date navigation, full media center, and could run the Torque app with a bluetooth dongle to scan engine parameters (meaning very accurate gauges). I think it could be a fun project for me next year

                      • Let me tell you, as a fellow owner of an F-Body vert -- hands-free calling in those cars is not terribly useful!

There's far too much ambient noise, even with the top up.

My iPhone gives me a choice between Google maps and Apple Maps for nav, and keeps all my music available in the Cloud. I can then play it in the car via a Griffin RoadTrip.

And with a six, there's no need for fancy-schmantzy gauges -- just look under the hood, make sure all six squirrels are still on their treadmills, and toss 'em some acorns every so often! I guess it's different with you LS guys...

                          LMAO - well.....

I am not terribly impressed with my outdated HU - it's not ridiculously bad, but it's not great. It doesn't even have an aux input - I had to get an ebay cable to plug into the CD changer port on it and it sounds marginal quality at best. So, I am basically going to be spending $200+ at some point to upgrade. Could be a cool project to try the tablet install...worst case, it doesn't work or I don't like it, and I use the tablet as a tablet and stop sharing my wife's 1st gen iPad. I think I could live with that

The key phrase on your post is "anymore, it seems..." My carPC project started in 2004... long before iPads and touchscreens in cars were mainstream. But, that said, I still would rather a PC than an iPad. While the iPad would be great for single tasks, the PC is great for multitasking and just "doing more." While there are *limited* datalogging apps available for iOS and Android, a true carPC running Linux or Windows could run a full blown datalogging program, diagnostics, etc. Hell, if you really wanted to get fancy you could turn the carPC into a digital dash since almost all of today's gauges are fed through the OBD port. Only thing you wouldn't have is the Odometer. When I run the carPC in Red Alert (it's been awhile), I was using datalogging software which gave a full blown dash display on the screen with gauges that were very accurate for MPH, RPM, coolant temp, voltage, etc. And that's with OBD1... Doing the same on an OBD2 car you'll be able to get even more data.

And that's perfectly fine, I'm not discrediting your choice. Some folks listen to the radio, some folks don't. Some folks want more info, some folks don't. Some folks are nerds, other's aren't. Variety is the spice of life.
