That was an articulate and well thought out response. Thank you for your input.

But, since I've become so involved with Camaros over the last 30 years, I really have no desire to ever own a Corvette. I can respect the engineering and capabilities of Corvettes, but they just don't stir the soul for me anymore.

If you really want one, I hope you can fulfill that desire someday.

I love corvettes. i cant believe some people will let other people who own corvettes prevent them from getting one if they want one.

Personally i want a corvette. Someday if i get one and people stereotype me like that, frankly Ill be pissed.

Wont matter much though... you get used to the whole stereotype thing when you drive "knight rider".

I've met very few corvette owners who actually aren't the typical stereo type. Just the other day some guy in a silver vette c5 had his gas tank falp thing closed but the cap was hanging out. So I rolled down my window and said sir your gas cap isn't on and he looked and me, glared then took off like hes hot shit and i'm a stoner kid with long hair who doesn't know shit. Theres probably 3 people I know that aren't what most consider the sterotypes. My dentist, he actaully races his. And two rednecks who both have a 63 split window. All the others, even one of our local cops are stuck up and I like to take a jackhammer to their car.

Couple points

1) The arrogant attitude of "some" corvette people is not much different then the arrogant attitude of "some" F-Body guys towards mustang guys or real import guys. Hell Ive even been talked down to by some camaro guys for having a trans am. Like what the hell... its the same damn car with a different badge get over yourself. So what makes some of us different from some of them?

2) Last time I looked my moms camaro over I can only remember but a couple bowties on it.. and nowhere does it say Chevrolet that I remember. It says "Camaro" a lot on it and SS. Hows that much different then a C6 that says Z06 all over it?

Matt, you are 100% correct. The amount of stereotypes out there is amazing. It could be ricer-bashing, mustang-bashing, corvette-bashing, trans am-bashing ("You have a Trans Am? Where's your mullet?"), whatever, but it's only a small percentage of the owners that are responsible for the stereotype.

Now, back to Corvettes.

First of all, let me stand up and say, hi, my name is Jeff, and I own a Corvette.

As soon as you say that, people's opinion of you changes. They instantly assume that you have money, are spoiled, think you're entitled, or worst of all, think that you're one of THOSE guys.

Most of the stereotypes come from the guys that have the "newer" Corvettes (C5s & C6s)....those type of people that really do think it is a status symbol. These are the people that ruin it for anybody else that has one. These are also the people that should be roundly ignored, and is the main reason that I do not go to C5 or C6 events. Conversation with C5/C6 owners usually revolves around what cleaning products they use, and when are they going to put down a deposit on a new one (yes, I'm stereotyping).

When I got this car, I never realized how many people despise Corvettes and/or their owners. Twice I've had somebody say (to my face) that "all Corvette owners are assh*les". I've had a soccer mom yell at me out of her minivan with her 3 kids inside "You just think you're so f*cking special, don't you?" just because I was backing into a parking spot.

Well, no, I don't really think I'm special, but you see, I'm on a downward slope, I know the front spoiler won't clear the concrete stopper, and my parking brake doesn't always hold. I'm sorry if I inconvienced you for 8 seconds.

And I've had people go out of their way, just to f*ck with the car.

The most recent example was when I took the car to Meijers early one Sunday morning and parked it all by itself, 50 feet away from any other car. I come out to find a ratty pickup parked, literally, 6 inches away from the drivers door, just to be a dick.

So I can see both sides of the argument. I see the Corvette owners being dicks, and I can see how some of them got there.

First of all let me clarify, I use sarcasm, sometimes very heavily, so much that is oozes out of me. With that said, Alex, when I said that the problem with most corvette owners is their owners, I said it sarcastically to be funny but I do believe that. I believe I also stated, as Jeff did that its mostly the ones who've purchased C5's & C6's and have done it totally for the status symbol and a lot of them never owned one before. There's a real arrogance to a lot of them, not all, but a lot of them. I've also seen what Matt's talking about, Camaro owners talking down to the Pontiac guys, probably because the firebird/ta is the sexier more appealing choice of the 2 so some Camaro owners resent that a little. I'll admit it, I still love 4th gen ram air TA's, my favorite is the Firehawk. However, I also love the Camaro, and I fell in love with the color when I saw it.

To answer your question Alex, no I am not afraid of being catagorized with anyone, I don't care what most think and I seek very little approval from anyone. That said it would not stop me from buying my possible future dream car. However, it is not and never has been a vette, they've never appealed to me, not sure why, I've always loved the fbody more, even when I was young and didn't know the difference in price. In truth, if I had the money to buy a top of the line vette, I might only now because of the C6 Zo6, for its drivetrain. However, if that wasn't available, I'd have to look hard at a Viper. Sorry, but I've always found it to be a more appealing vehicle that the vette, to me, I love the way it looks and it comes with a very powerful engine.

Now, I didn't argue that the Vette hasn't helped the Fbody, its provided world class powertrains, even if they are via the hand down route after they are in the vette. All I was saying to your statement that we wouldn't be here, the fbody without the vette I believe was wrong. As I said, the fbody was developed for a completely different market that the vette and the vette had very little influence initially. Over the years, especially in the 4th gens from a powertrain standpoint, yes, much influence, and I will give the vette its credit and thanks for that.

Your "mini-corvette" theory bothers me some, as I don't look at it that way, no offense but that's something I'd expect to hear from a snobby vette owner looking down on our cars. Again, no offense, I'm just being honest.

Alex, I'm glad you love your Camaro, and I hope you always will whether you obtain a vette or not. It just kind of came off before like you didn't appreciate the fbody and settled for it so that's why I suggested selling it and saving up for your vette. It sounds like your friend has issues, car issues, and goodluck with that.

So just to reiterate, I appreciate what the vette has done for the fbody, but I dont' share any love or passion for the vette like you. I'm thrilled to see you love american cars and not rice burners at your age, and I hope you get your dream car someday. However, I think the vette owner issue is bigger than you may realize and I hope you don't fall into their way of thinking.

Jeff, I've been there, more than once I've parked my car out away from other cars and more than a few times does some dickhead park next to me. They usually end up with their mirrors out of wack and anything else I can adjust for them without breaking anything misaligned before I leave. Luckily, nobody's ever messed with my car itself. But even the fbody's get that. Didn't want you to feel alone, lol.

Who cares afterall....everybody has their own opinion. Every "car guy" will probably agree there is a high percentage of vette owners that are asshols. But, one of my best friends has 3 vettes, including an original split window....and he is not an *******...oh wait, maybe he is.... ...No, he's not.

You will find in life, "most" sterotypes are in existance for a reason.

the mini corvette thing is hilarious, it pisses my neighbor off soooo much that i have the same motor and transmision as him. Not to mention that the LT1 camaro looks X100 better than the C4 vette
