Everyone in this thread who is bashing Vettes should be ashamed of themselves. You guys are stereotyping Vette owners unfairly. Its like the same thing as saying that Italians love pizza and spaghetti. Yes, I'm sure many Italians love pizza and spaghetti, but I'm also sure theres a handful that don't. Many of you don't realize that people who buy Vettes don't buy them to be fast. The Corvette is the true definition, or symbol, of American muscle. A 2007 Z06 goes for about $65,000. Keep in mind that it goes from 0-60 in 3.5 something seconds and runs 11s in the quarter mile, STOCK. Many European cars that have the same statistics cost double of what the Vette costs. My dream car is a Corvette, but I can not afford one, so I bought the closest thing to it. I'm sure many of you were in the same situation as me. So what I'm saying here is for you all to stop bashing the Corvette because we probably wouldn't be here without it...

Well, since I obviously was included in your generalization, first of all to quote myself.....

Notice the "most of the time". I have a family member with a '72 Corvette Stingray he bought new and is in a corvette club and is a very cool guy with all cars, he knows about and will look at more than corvette's. He's complimented me on my car several times. He is also not the baby boomer vette owner like you see now. His car has side pipes that are pretty loud, he just put a 5 speed manual trans in his originally an automatic 3 speed car. He's got many other mods done, including custom paint. His son has a Chevelle that he cruises with and parks next to at most shows instead of with the club or other corvettes.

I dont' think anybody was bashing the Corvette. Its the owners nowadays. The point is that I stated most of them, and I think most here will agree its the baby boomer/almost retired yuppee types that are not only afraid to hit the gas but only bought it because of what it stands for. Nobody was bashing the vette itself that I saw.

I also do not personally believe that the Corvette is the true definition of American Muscle. Its a very refined luxurious status symbol sports car. I believe that cars like the Camaro, Firebird/TA, Mustang, Charger, Roadrunners, Chevelle, Monte Carlo (older versions of most of these obviously) did and still do embody the heart and soul of the American Muscle car.

I also do not think that the Corvette is very many if any of our dream cars. As I know there are many many members of this board, myself included that if I really wanted to I could afford one. I love my Camaro and I'd be willing to bet that 99.9% of the members of this site love their F-body as well. I really doubt that many of us settled for an f-body. I didn't.

I'd also like to add that the development of the Camaro/F-body had very little to do with the Corvette to my knowledge and in my opinion. The Camaro/f-body was developed as an answer to the mustang because quite frankly Ford created they pony car market with the mustang and GM and Chrysler played catch up. So therefore I think we'd all still be here with our f-body's even if the Corvette had never been born.

I personally am well aware of the C6 Z06 and what it can do as are most here. And I don't think you will find anyone that won't give that car its just due and respect as a car. The issue here is a lot of vette owners especially ones that have become owners of C5's and C6's and never owned one before it look down on the rest of us with our more affordable yet equally capeable sports cars. With all that said, I'm sorry you had to settle for an fbody and if you are that dissatisfied I would recommend you sell it to someone who will love it for what it is and it is their "dream car" and buy a little economy car and save for your Vette.

With all due respect, you're 17 years old. You have at best, limited experience, when it comes to knowing what Corvette owners are like.

I'm 53, and thanks to an older uncle, I have been very much involved with, and around cars, since I was 10, (that's 1963, so you don't have to do the math.) I've been very involved with the Camaro Club for over 31 years.

When the first Stingray came out in 1963, I was "in love". I wanted a Corvette so bad, I think I could taste it! And, I was a Chevrolet fan right down to my very core. When I got my first Camaro in 1974, I became very involved with the local Sports Car Council, (doing Solo II racing) which included the SCCA, the Porsche Club, the Corvette Club, the Corvair Club and a local sports car club called the Furrin Group. (They drove Furrin cars, get it?)

Anyway, it didn't take long to get a lot of exposure to the local Corvette Club. Even back then, they thought their exhaust didn't stink, if you know what I mean. Their egos and rude attitude towards everyone else, was unbelieveable. I was crushed. Turns out the average owner of my "dream car" was a total jerk. (Of course, this is not 100% true, but most were very rude.) But, my "love affair" with Corvettes ended right then and there. I ended up making many friends in the Porsche Club. Much less egos there, believe it or not!

Over the years, our Camaro Club has has several joint events with the local Corvette Club, and I'm sad to say, the attitudes have not changed over these many years.

A couple of years ago, the Corvette Club contacted me about doing a joint activity. I was a bit skeptical, given the attitudes I've experienced over the years, but said, OK, let's see if anything has changed. The event organizer had the nerve to tell me, "I thought this might be a nice opportunity for you Camaro owners to see what we're all about. So when you're ready to MOVE UP, you'll know what kind of car to buy."

Can you believe the ego? The day was pretty interesting, to say the least. When we reached the end of our cruise, all the Corvette owners imediately headed into the country club and the bar. The Camaro Club hung out in the parking lot, looking at the cars for several minutes. (Who are the car nuts here?)

Now, our Club is mostly a mature group (you would say old) averageing in our 30's to 50's. But the Corvette Club was, on average 15 to 18 years older than us.

I'm sad to report, that even this year, at Superfest, the judges (a local Corvette Club) were overheard saying things like: "These Camaros are just a bunch of Corvette wanna be's" and when asked how (a Camaro owner) could improve their car for next year, were told, "buy a Corvette".

I've been to the F-Body Gathering at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY on two occasions. The local Corvette Club acts as the "hosts" for the weekend. I've gotten the distinct feeling that they felt like they were "baby sitting" for the weekend, and that the Camaros and Firebirds were "cute" but not quite as cool as their 'vettes. I have not been back in a while.

I feel it's a huge tradgedy that all that great engineerig and top flight parts in Corvettes goes largely wasted on the people that buy them. Most have no clue where the performance limits of their cars, are. The new Corvettes are engineering marvals, but I'm affraid I'll never own one. I've been ruined on Corvettes over the years.

There have been marketing studies done that show that Camaro owners are the MOST loyal Chevrolet customers, and the Corvette owners are the least loyal to Chevrolet. You're more likely to find a Toyota, or a Lexus in the Corvette owners garage as you are another Chevy. However, 90% of the time, a Camaro owner will have another Chevy in the garege. Take a look at the trailers at a big Camaro event. Most likely, there will be a Chevy truck hooked on the front of that trailer.

So, I still think the Corvette is a great car, and has amazing capabilities, but they come with way too much extra baggage for me.

So, continue to dream about owning a Corvette, just don't hang around the owners too much. I would hate to see your dream crushed like mine was.

lol, they have to have those because there's no backseat, trunk/hatch. You wouldn't catch and fbody owner dead with a matching trailer behind our cars!!!!!

There a lot like the doctor's, software designers, etc. and people like that that have harley's and trailer them to sturgis and ride around like they just got in off the road!!!

Hey Doug, out of curiousity, how many Vettes go on the hot rod power tour compared to other muscle cars do you think?

Glad you brought that up, that's something else I've always had a problem with. I bet there are a lot of people out there that don't even know its a Chevy. And you know if they did it now, all the Vette guys would be throwing tantrums and *****ing. lol.
