  • Nick's Winter Beater

Alright, not many of you know this, but since my family has a lot of cars, I decided to take one of them and start fixing it up to be my winter beater this year and save the Camaro from another harsh season. The vehicle I chose is the 1964 Ford F250 that my dad traded for my first car, the 1973 Mustang Grande 351C. I got started with the planning stages about 2 weeks ago, and to solidify my desire to fix this car, I bought a set of stock 2006 8 lug Chevy 2500 series truck wheels, mounted the tires, and put them on my truck. Since this truck is going to be moving all of our stuff to the new house, I decided that a show-quality paintjob is a little much, so my plan is to use only spray cans for the base coat. The paint scheme will be Black with Silver accents, like the Bumpers, pinstriping, "FORD" letters on the tailgate, maybe some stripes or graphics of some sort, you get the idea. A few years back, the previous owner had the beat up straight six replaced with a built 390 BBF from a 69 Galaxy 500 (I think. . .), and it has about 69,000 miles on the clock. Could be 169,000, IDK, the odometer only has 5 digits. . . lol This truck is huge, drives like a tank, and has a hauling capacity much greater than that of my Camaro. Here is the only pic I found on my laptop, it's an old one. . . I'll take more as the bodywork progresses.

It is a fun project, I'm learning a lot doing the bodywork and paint on this and my Camaro, I want to ditch the diamond plate toolbox and side rails and get a custom hard tonneau cover, but IDK how good that would look. Since it's a big block, I'm definitely gonna lower it, get some decent chrome rims (hard to find in 8 lug. . . lol), and get some fatter tires out back, narrower ones out front. Not too narrow, still driveable, but I'm going for the aggressive look.

There's the understatement of the century.

And has more character than 99.99% of vehicles on the road.

And still made with the GOOD American steel.

And will get 10 mpg...with a tail wind, a 1/4 tank of gas, and no load.

The only possible thing that could make it a better winter beater would be four wheel drive.

But hey, what's up with the sledge hammer and silver faux ram air hood in the background? Doing some...ahem...improvements?

lol, the ram-air hood is from a Grand Am, it's being grafted onto my stock 'maro hood when I find another one so I'm not without a hood, and the sledgehammer was for getting those drums off of my 'maro and Ben's 'bird when we painted them a while ago. We used the truck bed as a paint platform. lol

Anybody have any suggestions for the paint job or bodywork or anything? I want to eventually chop the top on it, to make it the ultimate custom, but that's a long ways off. . . Any stripes/graphics ideas?

fat's 'n' skinnies would be a horrible idea for winter...and skinnies period on the front of that thing under that massive truck might be a bad idea period...

but have fun with it...atleast if you **** anything up on it...it's just a ford...that's what i keep tellin myself about my ranger

haha and about the "lots of cars" when i called progressive to get ins. on my ranger when i got it...they were like "you already have 4 cars on your plan...you'd have to open another plan" im like "oh yea...what 4 cars are on the plan you're lookin at?" they're like "a 98 camaro, 99TransAm, 94 F350, 02 mustang" im like..."oh...ok...well somewhere there should be a prius and a 20something foot snowmobile trailer so keep loooking..." she's like "oops...yep...you have 2 more on this other plan...so you want me to add the ranger to this?" im like "yep" hahaha

that doesn't even include the 69 jag that's got Haggerty ins

Spray paint it primer flat black and do the wheel mods you suggested until you can seriously sink some money into it.

Exhaust exit in front of the rear wheels...leave it loud.

                      Tint the windows...sides and back.

Get rid of the tool box and install tonneau cover.

Drive it like you stole it until it blows up.

                      Insert 429 and repeat...

This is plated and insured by my Mom, she got it added to her plan for next to nothing, and it is just a Ford, lol It's got a BB, but the insurance still thinks it has the original inline 6. . .
Definitely going to get some tint after I get the bodywork and paint done, gotta keep it sleazy. . . lol I'm thinking 5% for the back, maybe 20% for the rolldowns and flap windows. . . I can do all of that tint myself, the glass is all flat. I'm thinking of some small round side view mirrors that mount at the top of the doors too, instead of the big-ass mirrors that are on it now. . . Not shown in pics, but their on there. Put 'em on today. lol I'm wondering how hard it's gonna be to find a tonneau to fit this sucker?

If its a winter beater i wouldnt lower it or put any money into it making it look better. If anything I'd lift it cuz it's a truck, a truck that you plan on driving in winter. Dumping money into a winter beater is like pissing it away. Save the money for the camaro, or dont use this as a winter beater.

Winter duty, but also gonna be a badass truck when Dad and I get around to restoring it. It needs nothing to be roadworthy, it could use power steering, but that's a luxury. lol Plus, with a V8, it's gonna be my fast car, the V6 'maro is gonna be my cruiser. . . lol j/k It's not going to be a money pit, why else is the paintjob coming from a spraycan? lol

yeah i say spray it down real good then go mudding before the water dries so more mud will stick, then never wash it again and don't put any money into it besides things you need, like oil change etc.
