An interesting debate...put old muscle cars on new radial tires and things completely change.

That aside, and tires common across the board, there would be a number of old school muscle cars that easily dip into the 12s.

The Chrysler Hemis, Ford AC Cobras (OK..they might have been 12s on bias ply tires), Daytonas, and any number of Corvettes would easily qualify in the 12s. But old school F-bodies are a much shorter list.

The COPOs for sure...maybe the Super Dutys...but everything else is open for debate.

The "quickest" factory F-body made was the 89 TTA...although the big 4th gens are right there (if not faster, depending on the source) in the quarter mile.

While the fastest factory F-body will always be in debate, a safe number is 12.8-13.0 in the quarter as the fastest number.

In fact, the only possible "factory" car I can come up with that may have run 10s (with modern tires and a helluva driver) is a 68 Hemi Dart.

Well, thanks to my Dad, I've been exposed to some VERY nice cars in the past. . .

Favorite "Old" car (Pre-1960)-1957 Chevy Bel Air 4 Door. When I was a kid, Dad had a pair of these, one was a parts car, the other he was restoring. Work took over, and he never finished the project. I remember the last time I rode in the black one, the hood latch failed, and the hood flew open on us going about 35 mph. Scary experience, but it was a great time. . . (Not posting a picture, if you don't know what that car looks like, you've been living under a rock)

Favorite "Muscle" car (1961-1980)-The 1970 Monte Carlo that my Dad and I have been building since I was about 5 years old. Some of the best memories of my life were spent working on that car. I never understood why Dad worked so hard on it or loved that car so much until he let me drive it for the first time. Now that he's gone, the car means even more to me, because just being around it brings back all of those great memories. Here's a couple of pictures.



Favorite "Import" car-1970's Datsun Z-Series (240Z, 260Z, 280Z). These cars have always intrigued me. They are fast, handle well, and bear more in common with Corvettes from their time than F-Bodies did. 2 seats, full independent suspension, 4 speed transmission, mechanical clutch, they were great little cars. Dad always called them the "Poor Man's Corvette". He had a brown 280Z when I was about 4, I always called it the "Race Car", and since it was only a 2 seater, Dad and I always got to ride in it together, and I didn't have to fight for the front seat. lol This one has the headlight covers and body kit I wanted on my '78, but I ended up selling before I really got it anywhere near driveable condition.



Favorite "Modern" car-My 1993 Pontiac Formula. I have had a lot of fun with this car, and I'm extremely fortunate to have been able to buy it. I've learned a lot about working on cars from this one, and like they say, "Money can't buy happiness", but money buys gas, which powers the engines in the above mentioned vehicles, and the Go-Pedal is directly linked to the happiness of the driver. . . So in a way, they are wrong to say it can't buy happiness. That's why I'm always depressed when I'm tight on cash and have to lay off the cruising to save gas to get to/from work. . .

There are plenty of other cars I like, but these are my favorites, mostly because not only are they awesome cars, but they have a deep personal meaning to me, mostly a link to the past, and a way to remember better times. I could sit here and dream about Lambourghinis, Ferraris, Maseratis, Corvettes, or the like for hours, but in the end, they are just cars to me. I have experience with the cars I mentioned, and if I could, I would have one of each in my driveway.

sorry i knew one of em did, they had a show on muscle car tv on spike the other day about the t/a, the guy said that one of em ran 10s from the factory, and was til this day the only car to do it without any add on engine mods.
