Not sure if I ever posted about this or not, but last fall and through this winter (until I started working on the camaro) Ive been bringing my grandpas (who past away just about a year ago) 1978 Jeep CJ-7 back to life. It was quite a chore really, its been sitting out side next to the barn for the last 6 years since they sold the cabin and brought it home(even then it wasnt running right so it was trailered home from alpeana).
First thing was replacing the battery, then the fuel pump(old mechanical style), then the gas tank and fuel filter. Followed by tires, brakes, wheel lugs/locks, changed the oil, p/s fluid, and coolant, and replacing all exterior lights and fixtures.
Then I noticed a little hole in the frame, and went at it with a hammer, and nearly tore the whole back half of the passenger side frame apart. This was kind of devistating, but the local shop cut us a REALLY good deal cutting the frame apart and rebuilding that whole section and undercoating the whole thing. We were back on track! Most people wouldnt have fixed the frame, they would have junked it, but my grandparents bought it new in 78, and my grandpa drove it everyday to work at the plant. It has more sentimental value than most could comprehend.
Then came paint, we matched this paint as close as possible to the color my grandpa repainted it about 18 years ago, it was origionaly green but, he picked the color blue, so thats what we went with.
Really the only things left on my list are to repaint the hardtop (cant do till I get the camaro out of the garage or until it warms up), and take the wheels off and get them blasted so I can repaint them.
Heres a website I made for a project at school it has most of the info for the thing on it, and alot of pictures, but I went and shot a few more the other day when I was out back playing a 18ish inches of snow!

And yes, 304 + 3 speed = Horrible gas mileage.
Was kinda board in my VB class, so just thought I'd share....
