  • Exhaust Complete

Turned out to be the exhaust install from hell. Guess thats what you get when you try to do something different. Heres what went into it.

    -Pacesetter Coated LTs
    -Header reducers
    -3" to 2.5" Clamps
    -3 Summit Mandrel 2.5" U-Bends
    -5ft of 2.5" Straight Pipe
    -Dual DMH Electric Cutouts
    -Flowtech Cutout Pipes
    -"Y" Collector 2x2.5" to 3"
    -Hooker Catback

With the cutouts open, it is a "true dual" system with an H style crossover just off of the headers. Right now its dumped right off the cutouts, but I have moroso bullets in the mail. With the cutouts closed it is routed through the hooker catback and out the tails.

Spent way too much time getting the passenger side manifold out and putting all of the EGR shit back together. Note to self: EGR delete imminent. Took two days to complete it, but I love it and it was well worth the time and effort.

Driver side cutout sits too low and needs to be adjusted but everything else fits very well and is tucked up nicely. No rattles though

Here are some pics and a sound clip.

Note: The welding pic was taken from around a corner, I wasn't staring at the flame

Note #2: Its good to have an experienced machinist/welder on hand when doing exhaust work.

Note #3: Dogs like to get in the way, but look cool while doing it.

Overall I really love the sound. Its VERY smooth during acceleration but still sounds aggressive with good volume. I dont like driving with the cutouts open without bullets because i think it sounds too "sharp," but we'll see how it sounds with some spiral flows. Updates to come after the bullet install.

this has got to be the most unique exhaust setup that I have ever seen on an f-body. Very original idea. How much did the whole setup cost you?

Sounds Great. You definetly can tell the tinny sound with the cutouts. I just installed the same headers with a Y-pipe and Corsa exhaust to our 2000 SS and I have to agree the passenger side with the emissions was a PITA. I wish they would have tapped the holes in the air tube connections on the Header.
If anyone else does this same set-up they may want to consider Tapping the holes for the air tube connections Prior to installing the headers.

Looks good. I don't know how big I am on that cross over deal you have going there tho.

yeah what is with that big rusty pipe in with all the shiny ones? And you are going to have NO ground clearance with that

I think you have a great idea however that crossover seems super inefficient, there is no merge into it at all and I highly doubt the exhaust from that side makes it over to the cutout, no to mention it hurts your ground clearance. Get a second e-cutout for that side and I bet it'll make worlds of difference.

On a side note why did you reduce it all to 2.5" exhaust? My Hooker catback is all 3" up to the muffler.

Had an extra piece of 2" pipe layin around and its all gonna be rusty in 2 weeks anyways lol

And my ride height is stock. Clearance is not an issue right now. If i lower It ill probably have to modify it, but no big deal. Lowest spot on it is the drivers side cutout and thats the only part that I need to modify right now.

There are two cutouts!?!? One on each side.

It is only 2.5" off of the headers. When it merges back into a single pipe it is the normal 3" catback.

Not really exhaust savvy so I'm not sure I understand the point of the cross over pipe, but it all looks nice!

Also in the first picture I see you dont have a lid? Cheap easy mod good for a pony or two.

Did you write your username on the bottom of your car?

                        Headers: 360
                        Cutouts: 360
                        Catback: 340
                        Pipes/Clamps/Misc: 100

~1200ish. Dual e-cutouts rape the wallet

Heard a crossover helps balance the two sides of the engine and might make a bit more power so i thought id give it a go. Hard to tell in the video but it did change the sound of it. If i end up wanting to get rid of it, its an easy fix.

Lid is on the list. Just got the car about a month ago so I haven't done a whole lot to it yet.

Yeah lol I got bored with the chalk stick and wrote TenaciousZ lol

oops my bad just noticed the other cutout, in that case my only gripe is that crossover, because they usually are an x-pipe style so the exhaust freely flows through them. That 90 degree bend probably restricts flow more than it helps, but definatly a nice setup otherwise.

Also sorry to be a pest but why exactly did you go to 2.5" then at all why not just use 3" cutouts and be done?

You mean 3" off of both headers and then 2x3" to single 3" at the catback center pipe? Went 2.5" for clearance and cheaper pipe. Not making enough power to consider 3" duals.

Really curious about the crossover as well. Just something I thought i'd try. Id like to get it on the dyno with and w/o it, but it might be a while before I can.
