Let's Discuss - Cutting OE Springs...

Managed to get the shock assemblies out with only a little collateral damage - broke the passenger side end link. I am very happy with this car so far - such little corrosion it comes apart like butter (well, except for that damn end link!)

I'll have to order the blisteins immediately though - the nut and end of the shock piston are terribly rusted like everyone experiences. The "triangle" shaped strut mounts both had the upper rubber piece delaminate too. So, I just foresee me needing to cut these things apart. Kind of sad, really - my car is a testament to how poor this design is to trap water. Other than dirt which wipes right off, my decarbons look mint.

Hmmmm - I've got an order in for some new SLP Bilsteins. If the cutting doesn't work the way that I want and he's willing, I may be interested in the stranos - not sure if he'll want to separate. I'll contact him if/when I am in need of springs

Also, I think pferris was looking for some lowering springs.

Just for some more reassurance I cut a full coil off of my front and backs and this was the result.

I am all ready to slice, just trying to decide how much I want to cut to start. On one hand, don't want to cut too much. On the other hand, I don't want to go through installing these things three times to get it right. Think I should start at 1/2 a coil, or just go for the full coil? I do like how Justin's car is looking in the link - he says 1 coil gave that much drop.

Id go for the full coil If its really killing you do 3/4 of a coil.

I like my car low.

If my headers tucked better I'd get sportlines.

Well, they are cut! Went to do 1/2-3/4 and decided screw it and just cut the whole coil. So, they are both now 1 coil less than stock.

Waiting on my Bilsteins to come in, and I'll be placing an order for the mounts and isolators tonight.

awesome! Ive decided i happy with my BMRs now. Still firmer than i would have hoped for but at least it isnt riding like a rock now, guess they had to wear in some.
