Welcome to the Michigan FBody Association website.
The Michigan FBody Association is a centralized website for FBody enthusiasts to discuss what's going on in the Michigan area. MiFbody.com was created to allow for an easy one-stop place to find out what's going on in Michigan as far as FBody events, to find out what clubs are available in your immediate area, and for an easy place to post classifieds for items you want to sell! Our goal was to create a more close-knit community of FBody enthusiasts in the state of Michigan, and to bring Camaro and Firebird enthusiasts alike together for some amazing FBody events!
The most important thing to know about the Michigan FBody Association is that we are NOT a club! The Michigan FBody Association is open to everyone, and is a community. Thus, we will have get togethers, casual cruises, events, and such like that, but this is not an exclusive club and it's 100% free to join this site! So what are you waiting for? Register now!

cutting the stock springs isnt tabo anymore like James was saying. Stacey David on Gearz did a good show on this. Its only when you heat the springs to lower them is tabo, cause you actual loose the spring rate when heating them (make them weak)
Right - consensus is to use a bandsaw or cutoff wheel and keep heat to a minimum.
I figured it couldn't be a horribly wrong practice, every car show I watch I've seen them trim the springs a little.
Cool, mind's made up - I am doing it. Joel, I can be the guinea pig and you can check out my setup once I get this done. Only thing is, who knows when I'll actually get it done.
Cut away! I would start small like others have already said. I cut 1 coil off the front my old mustang to compensate for the rear sagging and it ended up being too much. Looked good but it would rub slightly on tight turns
Yeah, I am thinking I'll just leave the decarbons on while I dink with the ride height, and then swap in the Bilsteins once it's final. Start with 1/2 a coil or so and see where it nets me and go from there. I'm really not too picky, so as long as it stops looking like a 4x4 with 200 lbs of cargo in the trunk (looks like it has saggy ass to me), I am pleased.
I think the key to this is also doing the UMM -will keep it from bottoming out. The UMM costs a whopping $0, so I may as well give that a shot too.
Thanks, all, for confirming I am not completely insane.
If id known so many people were having good luck cutting springs i would have done that to mine in the first place.
Werd - I was on a pointless two hour conference call yesterday and was feeling desperate as none of the aftermarket options seemed to do what I want. I started googling "LS1 cut springs" and found some promising info. Like someone else said, if it's good enough for Gas Monkey/Foose/etc, why couldn't it work for me?
Again, really examine that UMM thread - I think that's what will keep the car off the bumpstops and comfortable. By the estimates I am reading, cutting my front springs will give me a 1LE-ish spring rate, with only a minor drop in compression travel. I'd hope the increased spring rate makes up for the lost travel.
i'm gonna go this route first before buying eibach springs... just need to figuare out what shock and strut to put in... what is the UMM mod people were talkinga bout?

Back wheni was doing the springs on my car everyone on tech frowned upon it. I remember picking up my 93 when I bought it back, it rode like a dream compared to my pro kit on the 99. I ended up getting the set of bmr springs for real cheap (new) so I went with them. Corners great, rides like a rock. And I wish it was a wee but lower but I think some bmr lowering a arms and the hose mod in rear will give me the look I want.
