  • Taller Tire

I am trying to find a tire that is taller than what I have now to get the car higher off the ground.

    275/45/17.

If you have lowering springs, you could do the "heater hose" mod on the rear springs to raise it up.
When in doubt, Whip it out !

          Is this on your F-body?

The common and factory 17" size is 275/40R17, not 275/45R17.

Unfortunatly they aren't many options for a taller tire while staying with a wide tire on a 17" wheel. I had the same problem with my chevelle, I sacrificed tire height for tire width. I wanted a 26.5-27" tall tire but I ended up with 285/40R17s.
          275/40R17s are 25.7"
285/40R17s are 25.9" Not much taller plus most tires manufactors would want you to use a 9.5 wheel.
If you sacrificed width you could do a 255/50R17 which is 27.1" tall.

As far as I know it doesn't have lowering springs. I want it to get taller because the exhaust hangs so low. It's fine but if I hit a good bump she scrapes.

              A 275/45/17 is a 26" tire.

I plan on eventually running MT ET street. They make some that are 31" on a 15" rim. I know I'd have to change rims to run those tires anyways.

lol you will not fit a 31 in a stock wheel tub.. your best bet is to either change your exhaust or run a 28 inch tall tire.. anything more and u will have to do lots of clearancing

*falm palm* I'm an idiot I didn't even think of the clearance on it. Well a 28" tall tire would do it. That would get the exhaust up a little higher.

                    What exhaust are you running???

Be prepared to get an adj. panhard bar and adj. LCAs and a BFH to make the 28" tires fit....

Keep in mind, every inch in diameter you add, only gives you another 1/2" off the ground. Then factor in your tire flattens out on the bottom.

EDIT: Maybe look at some new shocks too

I have non adjustable LCAs adjustable panhard and LCA mounts I need to install.

I have custom 3 in dual exhaust.

                        Who told you this?
                        A 275/40R17 is NOT a 26" in diameter. It is 26.74"

I think you should get an exhaust that fits better. Installing taller tires is more of a band-aid fix for a different problem(shitty fitting exhaust). Not all cars can get away with a 28" tall tire. Front tires could look silly et

TJ, just fix your exhaust. That is definitely not normal to have it hang that low. Trying to fit a 28" tall tire is not plug and play either, it's gonna be just as much if not more work than fixing the exhaust.

Do it once, do it right. Fix the exhaust.

My bad it was a typo. He keep bring up the size 275/45R17 and it is not 26" tall.

But if we are being picking most tire manufactors list 275/40R17 as 25.7 not 25.6.
