  • James, you've always had one of the nicest looking 3rd gens around and it keeps getting better! I would have to agree your last wheels looked great and were more flashy, these new ones are a bit more subtle looking at first glance. But I like that, I've always been a less is more and let the rest do the talking. Great Job! and the mini tubs are sweet!

        • Here is my solution to the lower control arms. Since I have installed them I have beat on them pretty hard and they are solid. I ended up only painting them for now so I can keep a better eye on the welds. After a season or so I'll probably send them off to get powdercoated.

This is how much clearance is needed for the tires.

This shows the DOM tubing that I used to sister up to the original tubing. Also I tacked on square tubing on the opposite side to hold the arm from warping too bad when I went to weld it up.

After I fully welded the DOM tubing onto the side and removed the bracing.

Weld bead close up. I ended up taking the arms into work to use one of our 440V migs because I was afraid my 110V unit at home just would have the power.

I plated and boxed the ends of the tubing in for added strength and to make it look a little cleaner.

          Fully welded ready for paint!

          Painted and assembled

Room to spare...maybe I'll run a 345 series in the future and ditch these little 335's.

See how the axle side mount is partly inside the wheel.

            • Those are some purdy beads! A 110 might have done it if you preheated the metal a bit, but that's just silly. My next big purchase is a tig/stick/plasma cutter AC/DC unit

                • That looks involved. How do the R888's handle? Is your rear spring/shock setup strong enough control the extra mass?

                  Burnout vid?!

It was involved..lol. The R888's are awesome. They do make a bit of noise at highway speed though. I think I will need new adjustable shocks for the rear...I'm pretty certain the springs are okay.

                    • Looks great James. Defiantly an innovative approach to it!

Just wondering when you just didn't go with a double rod ended arm with offset spacers? From the pictures it looks like an offset LCA would have given you the room you needed.

Thanks..2 reasons as to why I went this route. 1) I didn't want a double rod end arm due to the noise factor (street car) and 2) It looked like if I did use the double offset rod end it would have put the arm 1/8 to 3/16 away from the tire. So any sidewall flex from hard cornering (into the grocery store parking lot) would have rubbed the tire.

                                And that's...

Titties. Pure titties. Great job, James! Just when I think your car couldn't be more of the ultimate definition of a 3rd generation Camaro in it's perfect form, you do more things to just blow it away... I say it again.... Titties.
