  • Ive got GO power, now I need STOPPING power....

Getting the car back and having a few days to throw it around and run it though its paces, Ive notice a rather serious problem, the brakes, or lack there of.

Every vehicle I have ever driven has more stopping power than this thing, feels like im putting my foot all the way to the floor to stop the car. It just doesnt feel right. Phil made several comments about the brakes being horrible at best. And I got a good reality check coming home from work today, getting cut off by a semi, I was quite positive that was going to be the end of the car. When at the track last year if I had my foot to the floor after crossing the line, I could USUALLY make the second to last turn off road, but I always went for the last, going faster this year, this is not going to fly.

Ideas? Ive bled the shit out of these brakes, more than once already this year, and 3 times last year IIRC. Fluid comes out crystal clear, and no bubbles. In order from pass rear, driver rear, pass front, driver front.

Rotors are duralast blanks all the way around, with PFC pads up front and duralast golds out back.

Wheels are always black up front(being white im aware nothing will be easy on them, but something a little less dusty would be AWESOME!)

Not sure what to do at this point, but I almost dont want to drive it after todays incident.

I NEED more stopping power, CTS-v brakes would be great, if I ran 18''s....

well the brakes themselves seem fine if they are new. Im not really sure how to check the booster but, I have swapped one out on a police interceptor and I was picking my teeth out of the windshield afterwards. LOL

Brakes arent new, theyve got 3ish seasons on them, and the fronts might be getting ready for a change, but I feel theres something wrong with the system itself.

How much vacuum does your engine produce? My old car would produce right around 10 in and the brakes sucked and that was with brand new pads and rotors.

I definitely agree, maybe your calipers are bad?

Spencer, I remember you complaining about this a while abck and faintly remember some of your symptoms.

I really think that you would benefit from bleeding the master cylinder. I have a kit that you can borrow to do this while keeping the master in the car, if you're interested let me know.

There is definitely a problem with your brake system spencer. My brake pedal never even gets remotely close to the floor, plus i did a road race event with stock LT1 brakes and I felt they were adequate. Id say youre looking at a master cylinder or booster, but id start with the master. Bleed it first like ryan said. does the pedal sink to the floor and lose pressure at all?

If the cars running I can put my foot all the way to the floor no problem, and frequently do waiting at lights. Not running good question, leaving for work in 10, I'll let you know when I get there.

Can you pump the brakes and the petal is higher for a while? When you pump the brakes does the petal come up solid them slowly sink while applying pressure? If it sinks while applying presure you have a bad master cylinder. If you can't pump the petal and get the petal to come up solid then you have air in system. If you have low vacuumn to the booster because of cam, then you would still have a high petal but have to push harder for stopping power.
I am sure you bleed the brakes farthest away from Master first (pass rear) then in oeder to closest. Bleed the anti lock unit and the master first. We had a real hard time getting all the air out after B's engine swap and new lines. After the front aleinment his was 100% better and I think the impact wrench vibration from loosing the suspention bolts vibrated the air to the top.

Be careful! I would not be driving it to work until the brakes where better! We dont want this car in a accident Spencer!

I think its time for a brake upgrade since your having problems anyhow
