  • What shocks and springs??

Well I've never had mine replaced yet from what I know and at 155k miles lol. But what are the best shocks and springs out there for a better ride? I dont want ones that make my ride feel more bumps since we do live in Michigan with like the worst roads in the universe, also dont want ones that lower my car either because with my ground effect its low enough and already scraping it on roads and driveways as it is now.

I've heard recommendations of Koni's for shocks. And nothing really for springs since I wasnt too happy about lowering it unless you guys think I should have nothing to worry about.

Just get some KYB's. They are cheap and adjustable.

Craig (9T8W66) will recommend Koni struts and Strano springs - rightly so, his car handles like a dream, and doesn't ride bad either!

I forget how much adjustablity they have, but they're really good.

The KYBs aren't bad either, meissen has those on his car.

        Thanks for the props Kyle

In Tim's case since he's not interested in lowering the car and wants to improve the ride I would recommend keeping the stock springs and going with a quality shock. Yes Koni's are the best esp. if your lowering the car but since he wants to remain at stock height the options open up significantly.
Bilstiens and KYB's would be my next 2 choices. As far as springs there is no aftermarket spring that I know of the maintains the stock height and if the springs aren't broken of have any cracks then there shouldn't be any problems with them.

Yea, I guess I can take it to my mechanic and have him look at them, I just cant see them really being in that great of shape still since like i said I've had the car for almost 100k miles and I havent changed them yet, and cant say if previous owner did anything with them for the first 60k

Stock springs don't usually go bad or sag over time like some aftermarket springs do, so they are actually pretty durable

Yes. They certainly are designed for durability.

Hey guys, I don't want to start another thread since this one is open. I'm in the same boat but i plan on lowering mine with BMR's. I was looking at KYB's cause their on sale right now for 378 for 4 out the door. Should i pick those up?? I know Koni's are the best, but for 1/4 of the price i get a decent shock. Not looking for the best.

                Thoughts??

KYBs are certainly a quality item. I'd say go for it.

KYB's AGX's all the way! I put them on my car and havn't looked back. When I first dropped my car I had Konis and it rode horrible. They lasted a couple hundred miles and then I ripped them off for the KYB AGX's and haven't looked back.

The best way to lower the front is with dropped spindles. this won't change the geometry of the suspention and handling. Shocks are made for stock height travel.

I've never even seen a drop spindle for an Fbody. People use them all the time for S10's, Rangers, and other trucks though.

Yeah, I don't think people use drop spindles on 3rd or 4th gens...drop springs work perfect.

Now, Sam's Monte, we put 2" drop spindles on that one...

A drop spindle worked on Sam's car because it has the same setup at an S10. It's has an upper and lower control arm and coil spring with a shock going through it. A 4th gen has a strut setup in the front.
