  • questions about rims and thoughts about tire brands

im looking at a set of c6 take off rims (2008 im told) and im going to messaure the backspacing on them when i look at them but does anyone know what the max backspacing on a 97 camaro is. also im looking at tires and was thinking of going with eather Sumitomo HTRZIII or Yokohama S Drives. im looking for traction and corning over all. any ideas or comments

    thanks

I think 9.5" wide C6's will fit and 10.5"s will need spacers or the BFH mod.

Yeah you have to beat your fenderwells in to clear the tire. Not something I'd do but then again I did have to dent my floor pan to get my driver's side header in.

well im not into making room with a hammer so how large of spacer do you think would be needed. i have 1/4" spacers i used with my zr1's for a wider stance. think that would be enouph

Don't quite know, I just read that stock 4th gen backspacing is 7" and the 10.5 C6's are 8" so an inch or less? guess it depends a little on what tires you're going with.

Beyond the 5/16 spacers often used with prostars, im not a fan of spacers. Ive used them before, and they are not the best ideas. Espically on michigan roads, lol. If you do use spacers, i would highly recomend getting longer wheel studs, but this stops you from using stock style wheels in some cases. IMHO, your best bet on C6 wheels are the 17 or 18 inch replicas made for our cars. Eric L

Supposedly this style of spacer doesn't put more stress on your studs but I think it will, just not as much as plate spacers.

every rim style has different back spacing! I bought Z06 17" rim and the backspacing on those rims "made for 4th gen fbody" was 56 MM. they are 10.5" rims and can put up to 295 tire on them. Each rim style may have different position of hub, that why they publish offset. Offset is the measurement from the backside of rim hub to the back edge of the rim.

Edit: I did not need spacers. Tires are 275 40 X 17" Hope this helps you.

Plum's got it reversed... offset in that ex. is 56mm

Also, for anyone interested, on the back of most OE wheels, the rim size and offset are molded in.
Probably look like this: 17X9J +56

9.5, dad. 10.5 would mean you could go like 315

not reversed I just thought it went from back of hub to rim edge not centerline. thanks for link that clears it up for us all.
