  • Replacing Control Arm Bushings

Has anyone replaced the front control bushings on a 4th gen Firebird/Camaro? How did you change them?

  • #2
the first side i pressed them in with a vice and it bent them and i took a cheisel and fixed them but when i did the other side i cut a C basically out of some metal to go inbetween the control arm so it didn't bend when i pressed in the bushing. you'll see what i mean when you look at it

How did you remove the old ones? Did you use a press or did you go with the burn em out technique?

The plan is to change my upper and lower balljoints aswell as install the poly bushings on top and bottom. Hopefully it wont be a PITA.

ball joints will be cake, you can get the lowers out with a bfh, i used a press to install mine, the hot a hand tool that can do it as well, uppers are easy just grind the rivets off.

Use a chisel, hammer & blacksmith's forearm to collapse or cut the bushing shell into a C shape. This will relieve the interference fit so you can tap the bushings out of the arm without hurting anything. Ya, i know what i'm talking about.
