  • Brakes...

Well, some dumb ***** decided to wait until the last second to stop behind a car (after doing 40) today, so that meant I had to slam on my brakes, and I literally was scared shitless - I came probably within half a foot of her back bumper - and my foot was to the floor (I probably was a carlength or so behind her).

Nonetheless, I can definately feel my brakes are nowhere near as good as they were before this today. I probably just need new pads.

But I don't want to have to be freaked out like that again.

So, I really want to get some aftermarket brakes in my car (especially with the planned 383 I want eventually).

What do you guys recommend I do?

depending on your roters might be worth investing in a big break kit, if not at least drill or slotted or drill and slotted roters with some better pads.

drilled/slotted rotors actually decrease stopping power. Less friction surface

                  dont just get pads

you need to get new rotors or turn them

I was reading LS1 brake conversion is pretty affordable, and it would open up options for future improvement later on

If you intend on doing anything more than putting good pads on it, you should spend some time on Thirdgen.org.'s brake board first. Those guys have spent some considerable time coming up with some good setups that will perform just as good as the SSBS setup, for a lot less money. Below is a couple threads worth reading.

I vote LS1 brake swap, or C5 corvette brake swap. If money is tight, just get a good set of pads and new rotors.

Why do Willowood, Bear, and SSBC sell all there kits with that style rotor?
And yes, I do know you can get regular one's too.

My car stops better with with that setup than it did with standard rotors.

I have sloted and drilled rotors all the way around with high end pads and I can stop on a dime.

The LS-1 swap is good too
                          Bigger rotors up front
Just remember that you need LS-1 spindles too if you do that.

I've already been making changes to my setup, and collecting parts for the next phase. Right now I just finished switching over from the Vacuum Booster, to Hydro Boost. The next phase will be Wildwood calipers with C4 Vette rear rotors on my front. I already have a set of wildwood Calipers, and I'm waiting for an opportunity to get it done.
