I'd rather spend a few more $ and have it done sooner than spending days with nasty paint stripper to save a few $. Sometimes it's just worth spending the extra money. I wish I had never bought that damn spring compressor for $30 and just took the struts to Napa to have them changed like I did before!

I will probably have this done within 24 hours of the start time. Use my original post for reference, i was quick to get it up after applying the stripper. If not oh well. Im already making better progress than i expected so im happy.Originally posted by GETGONE View PostI'd rather spend a few more $ and have it done sooner than spending days with nasty paint stripper to save a few $. GMPartsDirect... $80Originally posted by GETGONE View PostPaint stripper just makes me sick, which is good enough reason to avoid it for me! Did you find a place that sells the center caps? Have you seen the Z06 wheels that are done up like the 35th wheels?
i cant complain i guess, the conversion will still probably only cost me about $100.-Joel

paint stripper isn't bad until you get it in a cut on your hands, then it burns pretty good. Anyways good luck on the project, and remember to only brush the stripper in one direction also i've noticed if there is a breeze or wind it helps alot more.sigpic

Good progress Joel! Don't listen to these yahoo's about media blasting.....they don't know what they are talking about. You would never be able to preserve that machined surface under a blasting enviroment. And even if you were to uses a super light media such as walnut or poly it would still eff up the machined surface...aluminum is just to soft to withstand that type of abuse. Chemical stripping is the only way to do it without having to refinish the machined surface.sigpicTurbo Charged LS1/T56

FYI... Tape over the machined surface with some decent tape and use soda and don't directly hit the tape and your totally fine. Soda couldnt even get a sticker off of my air cleaner. And i made a super man emblem the raise parts are machined and the inside part is all media blasted. That worked just fine all out of aluminum.1989 Chevrolet Camaro- Currently in pieces...

That's great, but you would have to be able to GET to the machined surface in order to be able to mask it.....hard to do that when PAINT and CLEARCOAT are covering it.Originally posted by Naterman35 View PostFYI...
