Going to be getting an adjustable torque arm...probably UMI when I get my new rear end. So the question is.....trans mounted or chassis mounted. They say you get alot of road noise/vibration with the chassis mounted one, which is not cool for my car cause it spends 99.9% of it's time on the street. Anyone here running a quiet chassis mounted torque arm?

I don't know anyone using an aftermarket unit on a 3rd gen but I've heard the same thing about road noise with a chassis mounted unit.Originally posted by WMCCjames View PostGoing to be getting an adjustable torque arm...probably UMI when I get my new rear end. This is a pretty cool site: http://www.xse.com/leres/ss/t-arm.html
Somewhere in there I've read he was getting a clunk when he had the chassis mounted T-Arm installed.
If a trans. mounted T-Arm is good enough for Phase III GMMG Camaros, I'd feel safe using one with my little motor.

well i used to have a BMR trans mount TA, it was pretty loud with the road noise...i now have a chassis mount S and W piece and i think it's quieter. i don't think either one or the other is all that much different though1998 Camaro SS Bullseye Turbo

thats interesting... im wondering if chasis mount noise is as mythical as poly trans mounts causing vibration - if anything my car has less vibration after switching from a brand new LS1 mount. Ive not felt one vibration yet.Originally posted by SS4Matt View Postwell i used to have a BMR trans mount TA, it was pretty loud with the road noise...i now have a chassis mount S and W piece and i think it's quieter. i don't think either one or the other is all that much different though-Joel

Yeah, I will definately be using a full length arm no matter what. Short arms are not for me. I am most likey doing a trans mount design, they say you don't really have to worry about breaking the tailshaft until your 60ft's get down into the 1.5 range.
I was set on UMI but I looked at the BMR arm and like it a little better due to the snout design.sigpicTurbo Charged LS1/T56

I run a spohn chassis mount arm on my 97. I have a chromoly rod end and does have some noise when beating on the car but I think it is due to the chromoly end.67 Coupe Corn fed 502BBC 4L80E 371WHP/367FT lbs torque

For vehicle dynamics sake, get the long one!!
Also, something to think about is to have a round tube as the end and insert a grease fitting. This will allow it to twist in the bushing as the car rolls. If you just have a poly mount it wont allow the torque arm to slip and this will put a bending/twisting load on the torque arm

I have a BMR T.A. and it came with a big tube of synthetic grease for such an application. I've had it out a couple times since I installed it and the gease is still there so I think a fitting would be over-kill.Originally posted by DanO View PostFor vehicle dynamics sake, get the long one!!
