Saving a Hugger Orange Z28RS

I had no idea it had been hit. The fender on it now doesn't show damage nor does the frame underneath. The rear bumper is in okay shape but the crash bar is missing and the rear body doesn't show any damage. It defiantly has clear coat issues it will end up needing a complete re-paint. But for the amount i have into it so far i believe it will be worth saving

The hits were only cosmetic. The drivers fender was pushed in a little bit. The rear bumper had lots of paint flaking off.

I removed the rear crash bar. It was pushed in from when Jason got hit. I had planned on making my own light weight piece but never got around to it.

These pictures show the damage that it had when I got it. Something more than that has happened along the way.

I took the engine out to put in a Red Z28 I had. I forget on the transmission, unsure if the car even had a trans when I got it. if it did it went to another project as well.

The car fax hasn't had reported miles since 2012 and was 7*'***

I don't think I ever cycled the key with battery on to even know myself, haha.

I have not started on the car yet because I want to wait until I finish my house and sell it and move into a new house with an attached garage. The car is in a storage unit.

My current dilemma is "do I build a drag car or restore it" because my thought with restoring it is buying a wrecked car with a good drivetrain and going that route, but if I build a drag car I can use what I have now. The car has a lot of little stuff missing to make it original like bumper supports and hvac box is cut up for a delete panel, the carpet is missing, I'm sure I'm missing a lot of smalls that I wouldn't need for a drag car.

Not sure if you would be interested, and it may depend on what route you go, but a couple of years ago I parted out a 99 z28 camaro.

As I tore things apart, I put a majority of the bolts in a box. I believe a majority of the bolts from the car are there.

I am not sure what they are worth, or if you are interested, but If you are interested, feel free to PM me, and we will make something work.

I think im going to hold off for now...the previous owner bagged and tagged most of the bolts just can tell that im a little light on bolts. My biggest thing im affriad of is the small bolts and screw, the vacuum lines, hoses, etc... He said alot of stuff was missing when he purchased it so i can only imagine whats missing now. I filled 3 totes with smaller parts and filled a 5 gal bucket with bagged bolts.

OD should read less than 120K. Closer to 113-114K IIRC

Was talking to Jeff Farr about finding this car today. He told me it was on here with an owner working on it currently. I bought the car from Jasen in 07' and had it for 3 years I believe. That car was so much fun, especially for a 22 year old guy. I didn't baby it, but I didn't really beat the crap out of it either. I probably washed that thing 2-3 times a week and waxed the crap out of it, constantly polishing the rims and making sure it looked incredible.

Unfortunately, being a 22 year old college kid without a ton of money didn't lend itself to really upgrading the car the way I wanted. I had the headers and exhaust on with an upgraded throttle body, and the car was a lot of fun on the street. When the trans initially blew, I dropped every dime I had into it to get it rebuilt and also put in a 3000 stall torque converter. After it was tuned, that thing hauled ass lol. Too bad it was VERY short lived.....

I was making a little bit better money and was a little less than a year from paying off the car loan, so I started looking into what else I was gonna do once it was paid off. After a few weeks of having the new trans, I'm pulling out of my friends place and BAM, trans goes again. Turns out it wasn't a complete loss and only needed repair. So I'm up and running again, and a couple months later I'm driving to work and BAM, again. At this point my frustration with the car had boiled over. I didn't have any more cash to throw into the car, and it was more important to get something dependable to drive as I was starting my career. That's when I sold it to Campbell and the rest is history.

Looking back, I wish I would have been able to pay it off, put it in the garage, and live to work on it another day. I miss having that car to screw around in and take a drive on a nice summer night. Especially with the arrival of a little boy this past year, I'd love to have something to take him for rides in someday as well.

So I hope at some point to see this thing back on Woodward so I can get that feeling of nostalgia. Look forward to seeing this car again. Good luck to you on the rehab.

Awesome to learn more about the car Mike. I wish i could say when this car will be back on the road...but i have a lot of work ahead of me. And i purchased a project that is getting a lot more of my attention.




But i hope some day in the future to finish this...or sell it to someone that will.

Did get a little progress tho!! got the doors, hatch, and fenders put on so now it looks like a car. And its also at my house now

It's cool that thing has such a history with MiFbody. I'd recommend getting some variation of "Village Bicycle" for a personalized plate once it's done.
