  • [Project] Official Project Thread! RAISING AZAZEL!

Ok so I know most of you know my car. Kyle another member owned it before me and got her built to one point then changed directions and then sold the roller to me. Im going 5.3 turbo t56 in it. I have owned the car for over a year but one thing after another kept me from getting to deep in it.
    Its time now.
I have sitting in wait a UMI tubular K member and lower A arms. I just finally bought a 5.3
2005 LM7 with 102k supposedly. I did buy it from a pretty well known local flint area street racer so i should be ok. He knows one too many people i do to get away with ripping me off too bad lol.
    So here it is

For those of you that don't know the car, heres a larger pic of my sig.

I do have a question about the heads that came on the engine though. Theyre 706 casting, i can look up a full spec sheet on them but thats not the biggest concern. Im going to switch to 317s. So what are these worth or what would any of you pay for a 706 head?

Good buy, should be a great starting point.

Unfortunately the 706 heads are vulnerable to cracking if they are made by Castech. Pull the valve covers off and look for this logo

Ill be digging into it this weekend. Are they worth more or less based on the caster?

Not a very desirable head, can be CNC'd or ported to flow really well. If it is a Castech head then I would sell them cheap or see what they are worth in scrap value

So if they have the logo theyre the castechs and are worth scrap?
If they arent do I have any value there?
I bought the engine for $500 so i felt like even if the engine is a bust i should be able to break out of it pretty even.

If they aren't Castechs then they might be worth $100. 243, 799, and 317 are the more valuable castings. Don't know much about square port heads, but those require 4" bores anyway.

From some of what ive been reading they can be built to a pretty decent head but it seems like a waste when i can just go to a set of 317s for cheap, i know a couple people that got a set of those for like $150, I need a set of those. If theyre worth $100 that'd be cool but if theyre worth scrap ill keep them around just to have for a house project or something.

Ls1 heads are actually hard to sell. Too many sets for sale. Unless they're 243 or 799 heads nobody wants them

So i got my engine stand put together last night and got her mounted up finally.
