  • [Project] Project First iroc

SOOOO as some of you may have seen last fall I posted pics of my 1986 Camaro I bought back. I bought it in 2008 as my first car, drove it 3 years, sold it, and bought it back 3 years latter after tracking down the owners I sold it to. It still only has 86k miles on it, but its rough, and its going to pretty much stay that way. But I got a few things I want to do to if im actually going to drive it around.

Picked it up Yesturday after Spending all winter stored in Big Jon's Garage. And drove it around the block for the first time since 2011. Its a 305 TPI with 700r auto, BORING and SLOW. So I have a t56 Im going to put in it, still slow, but not as boring to drive. I started on it right away.

    Pedals and Column out,

    4th gen pedals

    pedals in

    GOOD BYE 700r4

I'm a little partial to white Camaro's anyways, but I LOVE white Iroc's!

Doesn't look rough at all! Maybe just the pictures are deceiving, or its just me comparing it to my turds. The t56 should be fun!

wow thats a nice car, how labor intensive is going to be to go from auto to manual ? I'll be following this.

The Paint is rough and it has some rust, just not as nice as my Blue car. But its not to bad. Im thinking the t56 should be cool!

Thanks. Its not to bad, first time iv done it. my other 2 cars went from manual to auto.

Used a hole saw with a 1 3/4 saw to cut the whole for the master cylinder.
            installed

Then I wired it up. These 4 wires went to the stock auto shifter, the Yellow and purple wires got cut and ran to the clutch pedal switch, so you cant start the car unless the clutch pedal is pressed.

These 2 Green and Blue wires are for the Reverse lights and will go straight to the only plug on the passenger side if the transmission. The last 2 orange and black wires are left alone, they are for the computer to know when the car is in park or neutral, I left them alone so the ECM always thinks its in drive.

Next I ran a wire and tapped into the brake swtich, this is for the reverse lock out on the t56, this wire will go to the trans along with a ground to the lock out solenoid on the trans.

Ready to go with the 4th gen pedals.

            Hawks T56 Crossmember

and the t56 waiting to go in. Only thing holding me up is my friend is surfacing the flywheel.

SO im waiting on my flywheel. Back in 08 I put the flowmaster, muffler on it....and it sounded like a f body with a flowmaster.
But I had this 2 on the left borla set up from a customers car that's been siting on the shelf, So I threw that on, sounds ok? looks ok?
              Good bye

I like the sound, just a tad quiet. It has a nice tone though out. My muffler on the V6 does a great job at idle, has confused a LOT of people. Anything past 1500 rpm's gives it away though. LOL

What are you doing to do to get the VSS signal to the ECM so it runs right? I sent out my tail housing and had a gear added to the left side so the stock speedo would work and drive the signal like stock thru the speedometer.

as of right now nothing. I know its going to throw a code and run a little different. I could convert the VSS to the ECM with a Dakota digital box, but I still wouldn't have a speedo, the the tail housing conversion is best. what did it cost you?
