  • [Restoration] Restoring the 83

So y'all know I bought this a few weeks ago from Mark who is a member here. 1983 Trans Am. Carbed 305 auto. 46000 miles. I started the the tear down process this week. Gonna put all the GTA bumpers and ground effects on it, This car is CLEAN!!! All I need to do is fix a bunch of door dings and small dents and have it painted.

Heres the parts car. Shame the floors were shot. Body panels had no rust behind the ground effects.

Did some work on the 83 this week. Interior is all out. Found a little water on the floor but no rust. This is as clean on the inside as my 79 was when I got it. Looks like it did when they installed the carpet in 1983. Gonna pull the front bumper tomorrow and then I can start fixing all the door dings and dents.

Looks very solid, that's got to be a good feeling. Can't wait to see the transformation, Fred.

Whatever you do don't throw out the '83 wheel flares.

Did some more work on the 83. Did all the hole drilling and the preliminary fitting of the front and rear bumper covers and all the ground effects. I also circled all the door dings and dents.

Making good progress by the looks. Are you going with the black and gold theme when it comes time to paint it?

Sticking with the Black and Gold as well as the carb. The garage is gonna get a bit dusty though. Lots of door dings and small dents.

I played around with the cluster for the 83. Added gauge trim rings and carbon fiber. I may do White gauge faces too. Not sure yet. What do you think?

I have also been refinishing the Z28 wheels that were on the car. Here are the two that are done. They are for sale if anyone is interested.

Very nice. I always liked that early 3rd gen. Firebird cluster trim. Looks great in carbon with trim. I have a set of those trim rings as well. Another project waiting for warmer weather.
