I can't say alot about the history of it yet, Scott's is going to know a lot more about the car than I do.. at this point haha! I will be filling everyone in on details as I start going through the whole thing, I have it parked safely in my garage and will be tearing into it soon!

nah! this one isn't a roller just looked up the casting numbers on the block last night when I got home, it has a 5.0 in it.. but it sounds pretty beefy.. not sure whats going on inside of it yet.. but hoping for the best! no interior pics yet.. it is currently stripped right now.. going to be going through it and cleaning it all up and getting it lookin nice!

I am pretty happy about the purchase! was never a big firebird fan.. but I quickly fell in love with this one!

So I figured I would update everyone on the plans with the car. I am going to be working on this car in different stages. What I want to do is get the car to a state that I can drive it and still be able to work on it as I go, eventually I will be working on all the small things that need to be done to it and then move forward from there. last night when I got the car into the garage I decided to check the casting number on the block to see if it was a 5.7 or 5.0 because Scott wasn't sure if the engine was the original or not. the casting says it's a 5.0, so now the next step is to see if the engine IS original to the car, I just wouldn't feel right swapping out the original matching 5.0 if that is the case.

So here is phase I of the plan:

- Pull the Carb. Rebuild and Clean it. (gunked up, doesn't wanna stay running without a little help)
- Inspect the engine to determine if any leaks are going on, and potentially replace gaskets where needed
- Clean up engine bay and replace hood struts
- Full tune up on car (plugs, wires, cap/rotor, fuel filter, etc, etc)
- If engine is original, might make sense to see if transmission is original too (trans is not acting right either, if original.. might make sense to get it rebuilt)
- If trans is original maybe a rebuild.. if not original I can swap in my Camaro's old transmission
- New tires all the way around
- Fix T-Top leak
- Clean the minor surface rust from the floorboards and maybe POR-15 them?
- Replace carpet and start re-assembling / cleaning / replacing interior plastics
- Go through electrical system and make sure everything is working.
- Do a thorough cleaning inside, outside and underneath
- Inspect and figure out what suspension pieces need to be fixed/replaced (bushings, etc)

at this point in the list.. I should have a car that is all good to go and driveable that I can still do a little bit of stuff to it at a time.

I will be updating everyone on progress with this! and get some detailed photos of everything!

also 92conv if you want to updated the title of the project now to -> "Shadowfax" - Jeremy's 15th Anv. Trans Am

thanks everyone!

ok.. so now I have a question for anyone who is a master with this kind of stuff.. I'm sure 92conv has already looked into this before..

but I was looking into carpet.. from what people have been saying is that ACC is the kind to get? but I was looking and they don't appear to carry the correct color carpet (at least not the same name) as what the car originally came with (I believe it should be Medium Sand Gray?)

I'm seeing 2 colors that neither seem to match quite right.. medium doeskin and a silver color.. but are a bit to extreme from what the original carpet looks like.. the doeskin looks a little too.. yellowish? and the silver looks too silver haha.. or am I just being too picky?

I'd contact them directly, it looks like all my sources (most of whom carry ACC) are saying it's "currently out of stock". Wonder if they have stopped production altogether or if they're just in the middle of production changes........You are correct it should be Sand Grey, anything other is not going to match well.

I have another quick question.. On the back of the engine block where its stamped 5.0 is a serial number.. I grabbed that.. What number from the car do I need to compare to.. To see I'd they match?

It should match the last 6 of the VIN. That's the sequence number, and it should match that which is stamped on the block and the transmission.

oops.. just realized that the number I took off the block is the casting number.. not the block identification number haha.. oops.. guess I still need to check.. the block casting number actually still puts it in the proper year range to be original.. I'll be double checking again later tonight when I get home! fingers crossed! even though part of me was hoping it isn't original so I can put in the 383 haha
