• [Project] goldfinger!

so project goldfinger begins! this is my 1998 z28 a 1 of 300 gold coupe 1998 z28's that i have purchased. the car was originally a 6speed car from mississippi. i purchased it via a facebook page ya i know. has a corsa exhaust system and a suspension setup i have not looked into really. and tan interior that needs attention. i purchased a 6.0 from a friend of mine and am looking for a t-56 to match up with it. i plan on taking some hard corners with the car. not much progress but a hot credit card at the moment. im in sturgeon bay wi and the engine is in sterling heights at my folks. here is the few pictures i have, of the car and the pile of parts. will be updating as much as i can. the interior whore is back! lol already have a new dash pad and steering wheel for the car.

I'll be keeping an eye on this! And you definitely need to black out the tails and side markers. Red and gold just doesn't work

Bla, dont tint the tails. Buy the correct bumper lights if you want them. I really wish I would have found a color like this, looks awesome and cleaned up its going to be awesome.

On second thought, export lights might be the way to go with SGM. I'm not a big fan of them, but I think this is the one color that they could work very well with.

-i think exports would look great but they are priced through the roof in my opinion.

-so one of the things i wasnt happy with was the chrome on the rims is peeling, i really like the way they look with the gold. i may try to unload them. whats the opinions? i dont want to have them professionally redone thats not in the budget. and i recall joel having a helluva time trying to strip rims.

-in search of a transmission still and all the front engine accessories and brackets off an ls1 if anyone knows of any hanging around.

-just bought a oil pan, pickup tube, and windage tray thanks hoogiesngrinderz

-and i am up for a cam talk, anyone recommend a cam that makes good power through the entire rpm range? not looking for anything crazy, looking to stay with the stock internals on the bottom end.

                  I personally like the TR224 I got from sman. I think he's running a TR228 or TR228r now?

It's 224/224 .561/.563 lift at 112+4 LSA I believe. Nice lope at idle and does well throughout the RPM range. I wanted to go bigger but didn't want to buy a new converter. I also wanted to stay around .550 lift so the springs wouldn't get beat up.

Being a 6 speed car, a split duration cam such as a 224/232 or 228/236 would probably be very well mannered w/ a 6 liter. LS1 intake will likely hinder the upper RPM performance, pretty sure I'd gain quite a bit by going to an LS6 intake with my TR224. Anyway, I built mine for a fun driver, not for dyno numbers

Edit: Not sure of my stall, but the trans came out of a I6 Trailblazer. They are supposed to have 2600 stall, but it was a reman TC so Either way, it's fun to drive...overall it's more enjoyable than my large cam 355 with the 5 speed.

BTW, did you find out what springs it has? That car sat low in the front with an LS1, a 6.0 is going to lower it even more.

I really liked the tq of the 224. I moved to a custom ground 230/234. Gained 0 power from it. Actually lost 2rwhp. It really moved the power band around a lot, feel like I spin it to the moon every time I drive it. The TR224 is an older can but there is a reason so many people still use it. Good driveability, big difference in power from stock, easy on springs, etc.

Food for thought, I've got dyno graphs overlayed with both cams floating around if you want them.

well i picked up an ls6 intake so hopefully it helps it breathe a little better, nd that cam looks like it fits my bill perfectly. i was looking at the ls9 cam which i believe is a bit more aggressive lift wise. but i really dont want something to out of control.

Here are some vids of my LQ4 w/ TR224

When it was in the NBM car (video was cut/spliced between idling and the time I walked around to rev it)

Same setup transferred over to the red Z28

Not sure what the sound is at the 16-17 second mark
