The high idle linkage is binding.
So when you hit the gas it catches and forces it into high idle, then you have to kick it.
So I am going to try to back out the high idle screw. I think its set to high anyways I don't have a tachometer yet but it sounds like its close to 2000rpm.

    EDIT:

    I think I got it.
I backed out the high idle screw so it wasn't touching. Warmed it up, and turned the electric choke housing until it opened the choke plate fully as it wasn't opening it full before. So then I moved it a tiny bit back and tightened it down.
Now I will have to retest when its cold to use the high idle screw to set the high idle.

      Boom got it.
      Fixed the high idle problem.
So now I just have to wait for my tachometer to get here to check RPM for the idle mixture and check the timing.

Just took it on the freeway for the first time.
        Drives pretty damn good.
        Speedo is off.
It said I was doing 50 and was barely being passed so I downloaded a phone app speedo and according to that its roughly ~10mph off, but who knows how accurate that is too.

Driving it to work tomorrow because of the SNOWPOCALYPSE!

So due to the snowpocalypse I figured I'd drive the truck. Drove it yesterday on the freeway after work and was like good to go.
So I'm driving on 696 and it starts pulling to the left hard I'm like wtf? I get it straight and hear the unmistakable sound of a flat.
I pull over and sure enough.
          Side wall blew out.
After running around and going an getting a new tire put on the rim, the guy is like that tire was 20 years old and I'm like but it had perfect thread still on it what a waste haha.

It has 1 BFG All Terrain on it now haha.

I plan on Goodyear Wrangler MTR 33/12.5/15 on Cragar soft 8 Rims.

As for my post about the clutch going, the general consensus is he does know how to drive a manual so in 6 miles it should be impossible to burn up the clutch. So he just happened to be driving when something else failed.

well you had a hell of a day, the wranglers are a bit softer than the bfg's. ive had two sets and another two sets on my freinds truck and you get your moneys worth. they clean well, good on all terrains, and they live alot longer than most other tires.

Yupp one hell of a day.

Yeah the Wrangler MTRs have good reviews on them. ~200 a tire and running a 80 dollar rebate until May on them.

The important question is, when are you starting the body work?

I think I can get 40% off? I'd have to check.

But I agree with Joel, when is the body work? With these trucks you have to be proactive with rust issues.

To each their own, i understand getting it road worthy but making sure i have a clean solid body as a foundation for the project would be my first priority. Otherwise im wasting a bunch of time/money replacing things when i find out there are serious cancer issues, and i personally have no interest in anything rusty unless its a trail rig. (and this one looks too clean for that)

                              • From a been-there-done-that standpoint, I totally agree with Joel. It's no fun to sink a bunch of time/money into something only to realize I'm trying to polish a turd.
