  • She's back! Pics of the damage from #1, looks like if the ringland didn't break the bearing wasn't going to last much longer either. Block looks fine so hopefully build that into something that will hold tons of boost down the road.

      • So this was a turbocharged stock lower end, including stock ring gaps. And now it's a stock block but with rings that are gapped for turbocharging?

Correct, only differences in the new engine are it is aluminum and the ring gap opened to .025

                  • It’s the end of an era. The firebird project is coming to an end My wife surprised me with a G8 shell and we’ll be swapping my engine and trans into it and parting out the stuff that doesn’t swap over.

I will soon have a LS k-member, projector headlights, Quick Performance 9” with 4.11 gears and a Eaton True trac, ABS delete, steering wheel and quick release, Optic Armor windshield (not installed), subframe connectors, CTS 18x4 spares that clear Brembos, VFN hood with a hold for a high ram, Strano front sway bar, Strano Bilsteins with his front springs and BMR rear springs. Not sure if the bird shell is worth anything or if that will just get scrapped. If someone can use it i would donate it to a good cause.

Haven’t had it two days and the old engine is out, need to buy some v8 G8 motor mounts and it will be time to pull the birds engine out.

My wife hated how racecar the bird had become and wanted me to have something with interior so she could go places with me and not be hot and deaf the whole time. I had always talked about someday after I crash the bird into a track wall trying to be a hero I would like to put it into a shell that would make a good drag and drive car.

I used to have a GTP with way too much work done to it and she liked when we would go out to meets and race people in a huge car and beat them, but I traded it for the bird because I wanted something I could LS swap, so the g8 is sort of the evolution of the GTP and the bird into one car. GTP size and interior comfort with bird power and RWD fun.
