  • [Project] project takeover 85 camaro bbc

well as some of you may know i bought kens roller to use in my new build. kens roller is super clean and for the price and what ken gave me included in the deal was more than fair. he is the very great guy cant say enough good things about him.

well here is from the ride home only pic i got so excuse it. will get more once it gets settled into the garage.

    1202122158.jpg

so lets get to the rundown of this project.

im planning on using my big block that i already have or i might run the 6.0 outta my rolled truck with boost but not quite decided. but either way it'll be in front of a transbraked 400 with a 4000 stall. mostly likely be my big block mounted with front and mid plates but only time will tell.

for interior its gunna be the full 14 point cage with most likely all black and kirkey prostreet aluminum seats. might run back seats just for looks but will gut them for the most part.

im going like an orange color most likely as bad as i want to do white there is just to many damn white cars on this site lol. itll have lots of flake in it either way. im just gunna run my 4" cowl hood for now and see what it looks like.

rearend im haveing the 9" i got from ken turned into a bolt in. im gunna use the race craft brackets. cant justify using the stock brackets then buying lc relocators just not worth the time and effort when racecrafts are cheap enough. might also go full float with it to since i have all the stuff to convert it sitting on the shelf from our modifieds but we"ll see. im gunna run two inches narrower on each side so i can run 15x10 with 3.5"s of BS to get the deep dished look.

manual steering aswell to keep it simple. manual windows too i want this car to have the least amount of wiring just to keep it light and clean looking i plan taking my time and doing a nice job on this car.

thats the rundown on the car ill have more pics uploaded once i get the car on jackstands and torn apart.

and its hardtop which is a plus!!!!! there are way better looking than the ttops IMO

well its in the shop still but not off the trailer yet hopefully this weekend ill get things organized to get to start working on it. need to get the cage finished up first before anything.
need to get things rolling on this if i wanna have any chance of getting this done before spring. i got a new 7al3 msd box so that covers that. also got a 4k stall coming to. already got my quarterstick shifter and driveshaft so i got quite a bit of parts just need to collect more.

still have to order my brackets for the rearend and a spool for the rear aswell. and yes im running a spool dont care about anyone elses opinion of them on the streets. once i get my front and midplate ill be able to mock up the motor and drivetrain in the car and be one step closer to being done. i wont even touch the body until everything is done i the car.

heres what i need for the build:

i really would like a painless harness for a gm column to have a fresh brand new wiring in the car and not deal with the old stuff.

does anyone have a turbo 400 2wd i can use for mock up mine got misplaced some how.

does anyone know where to get a transbrake 400 built from thats reputable?

also looking for kirkey aluminum seats to aswell.

also a 850 carb if i go boost. 950 carb or a dominator if i stay N/A. dont really care of the shape i can rebuild them. must be a good brand aswell no edelbrocks period. would really like pro systems carb or barry grant but if the price is right a holley would be fine.

also where does most people get there headers from? im looking for a set of up and forward headers or log headers for my bbc if anyone knows where to get some or get some made as i want to go the boosted route but need headers first before i ever order a turbo. i would even pay someone on this site to weld me up some logs if they can tig them.

let me know if you have anything i need or know of where i can get them. thanks in advance just in the parts collecting process right now.

i would start with Detroit gearbox for the trans braked 400...

if your going to go the LS route with a turbo.. stick to EFI. get everything set and then bring the car to Joe @ downriver motorsports wiring nd have him wire it up. he did mine and did and amazing job.. in the long run it will be way better then carbed

does he do your trannies? i know youre making quite a bit of power and want it to hold.

as far a ls route goes how much boost will a stock bottom end hold? if i go ls motor route i dont wanna have to do the whole motor right away as i will have a lot of money wrapped up into this at the time being. also shoudl i run log headers or tubular headers for boost ive seen good and bad things about both. and im very dumb with the whole boosted game so educate me some as i dont wanna waste my money on something that isnt all that great.

and yea im gunna have to talk to ken and see if he has the time to make me some logs or if someone knows someone who can please speak up.

he doesnt do mine as he is on the opposite side of the state.. but i know the guy does really good work and know many individuals who have gone to him and cannot be happier.

as far as how much boost. i would stick with a iron block motor and stay around 8-10 lbs on a stock motor and you wont have any problems if the tune is on. you can get away with a stock one for a while if you dont want to make huge power right away. i have log style headers on mine and they work fine. eventually i will switch to a better set but these do the job for now.
