rust inhibitor. i took a majority of the paint off the whole floor pan of the car because on the 85 there was rust under the actual paint. where there was moisture and they just painted over. there wasnt as much but the paint did flake off in a few spots so i inhibited the whole thing, sanded it then used denatured alcohol then the rust inhibitor. it adheres and bites through all the crap pretty well and it can take a pretty good beating. i did the same to the bad rust on the underside i took the wire wheel to the bad spots then dentaured alcohol then that stuff and put the heater almost directly next to the car. i left it on for a few hours so it was at a constant 60 degrees in the garage and it baked it pretty well. after that was done the red went on.

UPDATE 85 interior is stripped except for wiring and dash which will be done next week, or tomorrow but probably not, i have alot of school work to study and thats priority. i spent about 3 hours cleaning the front and rear carpet, looks pretty mint in my opinion the water that came out of it was nastyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.

well i figured this has been too long since ive worked on this thing. ive done a few things here and there but its been mainly collecting dust. my main focus has been my truck which has been a project from hell upon taking it apart i found the heads were cracked, it needed ring, the piston heads were stock size but the block was already bored over. the crank was gouged, the bearings were rather shot. it had the wrong flywheel and flexplate on it so i basically started new. i read aa ton of 383 builds and i went for it. well this block doesnt like me whatsoever so ive been running into a ton of road blocks. anyways i think i have most of them figured out i have to put in new cam bearings and get everything rebalanced. my rods are still slighly hitting on 6 or 8 so im going to look into that. anyways heres pics
empty engine bay, the camaro is wearing the trucks whole front end at the moment

heres the 383 so far, lt1 cam i got from brian, all new bearing, rings, seals. new piston heads and wrist pins. i bought the correct flywheel and harmonic balancer, and of course new crank

also picked up a set of dart heads from Monty, bought some roller tip rockers for it and all that stuff is new.
Mike was kind enough to let me pick his brain throughout this build and even hooked me up with a tuned ecm. Thanks Mike!

lastly, since this thing has taken so long i took out the interior to clean it, ive been sick of the bench seat because the seat rails dig into my back due to it being so worn, so i met up with dakota and he hooked me up with buckets and matching center console which will all due for now. Also got red L.E.D.s all around the guage clusters and domes and everything for around 25 bucks from a member on gmt400.

thats what ive done on the truck so far. as far as the camaro goes i got the interior all cleaned up and set in for mockup purposes. i bought a harbor freight paint gun and painted the k member red. im waiting on my friend at midas to press out my control arm bushings and ball joints, and then new poly bushings are on their way for those. also picked up a gallon of primer to start priming and filling the engine bay and hopefully can get this thing at least on two feet.

              YAY thank you Brian

ok so long time over due update. jon and darren stopped by and took a bunch of stuff with them, small stuff but every bit of space i get back counts.

anywho i got some progress done. the 85 is almost stripped and dear lord its a mess. ill take some piucs tomorrow in the daylight. the 92 is getting the 85s dash and such but i encountered an issue with the two top main mounting brackets. pics will show what i mean. the 92 mounted flat and the 85 has a stud

got my heater box mocked into place. im going to be deleting the ac wiring if i can might just leave it and tuck it away. one question though does anyone have anyclue where each of the colored lines go on the heater box, they attach to those mushroom looking things. i have three visible ones and 4 of the lines so im lost.

also took apart the whole dash and cleaned that and the vents. and made a wiring mess. everything smelled like rat from when it was infected during its field days. its amazing how light the actual dash skin is!

also been trying to figure out how to mod my 92's power draw hatch to work with my 85's button as the 92's didnt have a buutton release in the center console. and i got the rear carpet and t top holders on

in suspension news. my friend stole my control arms from me i was hoping to press in my poly bushings but thats not happening yet. i painted one spindle red the other is being cleaned and im gonna bring out the gun soon and give the underside another coat.
also scored a Plastic ls gas tank from a friend.

can i get threee cheers for progress

any way to remove the door panel with the window rolled up? or anyway to roll a power window down without a wiring harness and battery connected to it?

day two of taking apart the 85 and made some partial use of the sawzall.
also painted the engine bay of the 92 and decided im gonna build that car for my dad so that him and i can cruise around together and maybe i can get him to join the site.

Two things i learned from today is gloves save your hands, and i absolutely hate the torx head bolts they use for seat belts.

engine bay is far from perfect, im not worried about it. it looks a million times better than before.

heres whats left of the car as of today. basically worked on getting the front fasia off and called it a day as i was high on paint fumes.

I always forget the gloves.......they definitely save your hands. One day it will sink in for me.

                      Engine bay looks great!!!

If you were closer, I would be glad to help you take that car apart. I have learned so much already from the car I am taking apart. Well worth the time and effort. Good luck!

oh yea she is jon. taking apart the cars is fun. putting them together isnt because i tend to get anal about how clean a surface is or with that car whenever id repair something id worry about how much rust i was gonna find. thanks for the offer though. im looking for a cherry picker to borrow otherwise i wait till my neighbor gets home monday

engine bay isnt perfect. theres drips and brush marks but i wasnt worried about it as my dad would drive the car in primer. hes more of a fit before finish person and im both

its alunimun oil based the bad part was i thinnned it way too much and sorta screwed myself up. oil based tends to smooth out when its thicker. unfortunately if you thin it too much it drips alot more and shows brush strokes more, although it does smooth out while curing but not as well as if it was thicker. plus a quart is 8 bucks and i only used 1/3 of it.
