  • [Project] 1996 Firebird Base

Well, I pick this car up from Joel(joeliusz28) on 5/4/2011 in fairly good shape for 192 miles. It stared looking like this

It has a miss-fire that will be fixed with a coil pack and an ignition module. for the right rear quarter, no better time than to learn sheet metal work.
There are a few other small things that I will see just how cheaply I can make them good/better.
And here are the 'birds resting peacefully at their home.

Score! I am very happy to see the Firebird found a good home. Break a leg fixing it up!

Im looking forward to seeing what you can do with it jentry im glad the car found a good home, I probably would have kept it if my job and living situation was a bit different. I was also hoping to learn some body work on that quarter panel but the intake gaskets had other ideas for me.

Just a little update for the weekend:
            fixed misfire
still tying to figure out what is wrong with the brakes (new front pads and rotors, properly adjusted rear drums, cleaned out proportioning valve, new master, bled whole system including abs module, still not working right)
fixed falling apart door panels and adjusted drivers window
            wash/clayed car
cut and buff the two areas where somebody did a re-spray but looked bad
then tomorrow will consist of wash/wax whole car, then detail, and hopefully find out what is wrong with the brakes before I drive it back down to sterling heights.

p.s. can a mod change the name to "[Project]1996 Firebird Base"

what happened with the brakes? They worked perfectly fine for me other than feeling and appearing worn out. Sorry to hear its giving you problems.

I had thought about wool-padding those crappy spray jobs away myself but decided against it just in case there was something worse underneath.

The pedal is very spongy, to the point that I do not think that the brake booster is even working. By comparison, the brakes on the park ave blow this thing away. It is like it goes completely through the booster and you are into manual brakes, then you only have a little bit of pedal travel, then you are at the pedal stop.Today we are going to see if we can get new fluid out of all four corners to see if there is just big pocket of air somewhere, and is that doesn't help, then it is time for a new abs module.

Good luck, honestly I never noticed anything like that when i had it. Replacing the front brakes was the next thing I would have done to it had i kept it though.

I have an ABS module out of my 94 Formula that has about 50k miles on it that I'll let go cheap if you decide you need one. Worked perfectly last time it was used.

Good luck! Sounds like you're making good headway on the project.

After I filler her up for the ride back down here, I got on the on-ramp and noticed a bad vibration that wasn't there before. Take it back home and my dad diagnosed it as a bad driver-side ball joint. Unless a miracle happens, it will not be going to the M&G.

I am not trying to insult your mechanical abilities, but did you follow the procedure on how to bleed that system?
I have heard of a few people running into issues by not following their little step by step bleeding for the f bodies.

Or maybe it is just taking advantage of the fact that I want everything done right lol

Yes, the bleeding was done by my father.
