        Nice truck.
Ditch the tires and get some good AT tires that aren't huge. That alone will help MPG along with helping your suspention and rear end - Not to mention many thank you's from other people that don't want every piece of crap on the road flung at them from the tires.
Big knobby tires look cool and all, but unless your playing in the mud or in the woods A LOT, skip the aggressive tread and go for excellent road traction.

You could probably craigslist those floaters, and get yourself something half way decent with good tread.
        Just my Opinion though.

My Co-worker bought an 88. I put a 95 Serpintine Belt setup on it, and it was much better than that Monstrous U bracket that was on the engine. Everything will bolt up in the exact place, but you'll have a nice serpintine belt .
The brackets cost us $50 for all.
We also put electric fans on it. Midland Antique Festival, $30 each.

Other than mabee the bracket swap, I agree - Leave that engine be. Make sure you keep the coolant flushed, never overheat it, and you'll be fine for many miles.
I would also go through and change all of the fluids - rear end, front end, transfer case, etc. That way you know your good to go.

For starters.... I hate you.....Honestly I really do

          jk but really....

I like the truck! I am in love with the old 1500s. I had a 89. Nice thing is you wont have to worry about the step side rusting out. The cab corners really aren't that difficult, but I went to school for autobody.

Best thing I like about this style is the speedo

the tires came on it, and yes i already know the shoot alot of crap out but finding a pair of 6 lugs is gonna be a bit difficult. mike im sorry you hate me, at high school im in the auto program and can do just about whatever is set in front of me. tricky id like to know more about the fans and belts you used if youd like to expand on that a little. i love the speedo too, havent really got used to the oil pressure guage and i have to put the cable back on the gear indicator, i also have a wire groundsing out i think so the switches sometimes work, and im making a center console out of an 83 trans am to fit into the truck, after that im pretty much done with the interior. oh and i have to find some adhesive for the rear view to go back up. what kind of fluid goes into a transfer case, ive never had to change one?

FYI an overhead center console is a very nice cheap upgrade and easily installed. this is the one i put in my white truck, got it off ebay for $30

Dex/Merc went in the T case in my old 96. That was push button 4x4 so I don't know if it's different.

Nice truck! I have a '93 I inherited when my Dad passed away, it's in much worse shape than yours is. Stepside regular cab with a 350/700R4 2WD. Thing runs like a tank, but it's got a couple electrical gremlins I'm chasing down, then I hope to do some rust repair, suspension work (going to lower it 2 inches), new rims, and a paint job.

Keep us posted as you do more to it!

im sorry i tempted you joel, haha. my dad had a 90' silverado 2wd thing has 856,783 on the clock, and he used it as a scrap truck, but he wasnt one of the dumb scrappers that beat the shit out of their trucks. anyways it was given to him by his ex wifes friend whose brother went missing and he was declared dead, so in his will he left the truck to his sister who then gave it to my dad. it was all gold but had a rust ussie everywhere that you couldnt see. so one day he was driving behind kroger because he need to go the other way and the front end dropped, and the frame bent, but the truck still ran. it later went to the scrapyard he was working at and sat there, and all you needed to do was turn the key if the battery had some juice, and it wwould start right up no probs, then he got fired and that was the first thing they crushed thereafter

wow. I thought my 92 did good almost hitting 200,000. It still drove like brand new, i wouldve taken it to california and back. Unfortunately it got totalled by some dumbass driving on the wrong side of the road and hitting me head on. That truck was also extremely clean. Only rust was the cab corners which i was intending to fix.

To be honest if I buy another it would probably be a pre-95 TBI. I liked the older interior and honestly something about the TBI engine appeals to me even though its slow in comparison to the vortec. It just ran like a top.
