  • [Project] <Project> 1994 Formula

Bought the car in July 2008 (my softmore year in HS), after it being a Wisconsin winter beater most of its life, for $1,875 shipped to my door. Arrived in rough shape for 94,414 miles with lots of rust and the engine seized. Sorry for some of the crappy pics; some are cell pics and some illustrate my shaky hands.

    The day it arrived:

My father and I rebuilt the engine with him telling me what to do and leaving it all up to me to do it right. I did a MILD P&P on the heads from what I had learned on the internet. Sorry, no pics.

Next we started on the exterior issues(big dent in the left quarter, lots of rust on the quarters just in front of the rear wheel wells, bad paint on the deck lid). Soon I will re-doing some of the paint because the rapid pace at which we painted it has taken a toll. We did all of the body work in the week leading up to prom, sprayed color the night before prom and let it sit over night, then sprayed the clear on the morning of prom, then drove it prom .

This is how it looked after(dont mind the F/S sign)

Next I tackled the rust that was on the floor pans of the car. I cut out the areas that where bad, formed up some steel replacements by hand, welded those in, then my dad and I fiber-glassed over the patches to make sure they are water tight and smooth. We then painted the whole floor of the car with POR-15 to stop the surface rust. At this time I do not have any after pics, but the next time I take the carpet out I will get some.

Next where some wheels I bought from a board member(JOHN_DEERE_ls6) that had lots of pitting behind the face that I ground off and painted with POR-15.

A few small thing I have done over the years:
    Windshield Banner

Chrome Antenna(should have just saved for a power antenna)

    Driving Lamps

    Stereo

    Interior "Accents"

    New Passenger Mirror from SWEETRIDE98(Before)

    After

Some things I have done to the car but do not have pics to:
    BBk Shorties from ICEPICK
    Flowmaster 80 series
    3.23 Gears
Switching exterior light to clear instead of Nightshaded
    New Carpet
    Removed Air/EGR
    MSD Cap and Rotor
    Polished the door handles

    Coming Soon:
    New paint
    LS1 Intake

Now that I have my own "good" camera, I should not forget to take pics while working on something

I was going to say that is going to fun project then I realized I saw your car a few months ago at B dubs.
I would consider you a doctor as you sure brought that car back to life.

Its amazing what different wheels will do to the look of a Lt1 based bird. Man those first rims are just goofy, looks much better now.

What motor is in it? Did you go to an LS or did you mean to say LT4 intake?

These are the issues that I am going to fix over the next few months. After thinking about it for a while, I have decided to paint the whole car (minus the engine bay) instead of just trying to fix the problem spots. I can only work on it on the weekends, thus I took my name off the 2011 M&G because I do not think it will be done in time.

Here is what I was able to get done this weekend. I did not get to work on it much
Front and rear bumpers pulled off:

After pulling the rear bumper, I found more rust. It was just surface rust, but rust none the less.

Was able to scuff most of it off, then used a rust converter on it, then undercoating.

That's it for this weekend, now a little something I did just before she went under the knife
