  • [Project] 1999 Z28 Camaro (winter to do list)

    Here is the dealio....

Every time I buy something for this car all of my buddies, acquaintances, family members, boss... etc, all ask, "aren't you trying to sell that" Well everything is always for sale for the right price....

And we all know how addicting these cars are. For me, I rake a lot more money in the fall than the summer, mostly reason being my car goes under "storage" coverage vs full coverage since I drive the Lincoln. I just got a new job about 3 months ago. I work at a dealership in the collision center, I am a painters helper. I miss my old jobs ( detailer, and working at a bowling alley ) The boss and I were really good buds (same boss both jobs) and I could get away with just about anything. It was very nice. I just about made my own hours, the pay was decent, everyone knew me it was just a really nice position. Now at the dealership im the "new guy" which sucks but its better pay, its what I want to do in life, well for now but its pretty stressful working 40 hours a week and going to school at night full time.... Totally blows.

Anywho.... This isn't really a project its more of a "things to do" list for crap that needs to be done to the Camaro. This car is my main priority compared to the 93. Which if you dont know about the 93 story here is the link....

    http://www.mifbody.com/vbulletin/sho...needs-some-TLC

The 99 has these mods/stuff done to it so far....

    Appearance:
    Pro 5.0 shifter w/ Lou’s short stick
    C6 shift knob
5% tint on sides and 5% over 20% on rear.
    Painted Calipers (red)
Nightshaded tails/front signals/rear running lights in bumper
    SS Hood
West wings front bumper and grill
    Eibach lowering kit (pro kit)
    Hotchkins strut tower brace
    Angel eye headlights (red)

    Engine:
    LS6 intake manifold
Pacesetter coated longtube headers (air and egr are removed)
Pacesetter off road y pipe with dumped Dynomax bullet
    Ported and polished throttle body
    SLP lid w/ smooth bellow

    New:
Plugs and wires around 85k (NGK TR55s)
    Poly engine and trans mounts
    New clutch around 60k miles
    New radiator around 80k
    New power steering hose
    Rear end fluid at 85k

I am sure I am forgetting some stuff.

The car currently has 96,xxx miles on it. Its my DD in the summer and I bought her about 3 years ago off of ls1tech.com from a guy in OKC. Which then had 68k on it.

Here are the things I would like to buy, fix, and paint over the summer:

    Repaint:
SS hood (there is a spider craack that runs from corner to corner close to the bumper. The previous owner must have put the bolts from the hings to the hood in wayyyy to far cause therer is some spider cracking going on the surface of the hood.

    Pics-

My front and rear bumpers really could use some touch up. Surprisingly the front isn't in that bad of shape, minimal rock chips and what not but I work at a body shop im just going to do it. The rear bumper must have been bumped because there is also some spider cracking going on.

Hopefully next spring I will be respraying the entire car. Body shops are pretty dead during the summer so therefore it will be much easier. Yes I will be doing stock color, I am not looking to get into the jambs/engine bay.

My tails are nightshaded with some rattle can clear. The clear isn't really made for the abuse the sun gives it. So sometime shortly I will be taking the front turn signals, tails, and bumber lights into work and throw a nice clear on them.

    Exterior-

Here is my debate thread on the rims I just picked up from Joel
    http://www.mifbody.com/vbulletin/sho...-new-10-spokes

I am unsure to go with all black, charcoal or keep them close to the stock color. I was for the all black but Joel really got me turned on to the dark charcoal. I am not feeling the red stripe so that prolly will be a no go.

Brian (bri2203) was nice enough to GIVE me 2 tires for the 10 spokes. The dont have very much tread but I can last a little while on them. So I am looking for 2 more either 285/40/17s or 275/40/17's... I am not sure how wide I can go in the front... Suggestions? I might just end up buying new ones for the front. So since Brian didn't want anything for these tires he suggested to donate to the site, which I WILL be doing!

I am looking to pick up a SS spoiler. I love the way it looks an I can't wait to get one but man are they expensive!!!

My headlights are getting old. I love the way they look with the brights on but I dont want to be that jerk driving around with my brights on.... I am looking to get some stockers and do a whistler mod to them. So if anyone wants to trade headlights, pm me or contact me here...

    Interior:
Interior is in pertty darn good shape. I use to detail for 3 years so I had access to the shop 24/7 and I was able to clean my car for free anytime. Over the summer my dash decided to crack on me (which we all know is a common problem with these cars sooner or later)

I wasn't a very happy camper when that happen. I think I will leave it for now since I have heard lots and lots of things about A) how expensive new dashes are and B) how much of a pita the are to get the new one back in. I have other things I would like to spend my money on....

My side windows have 5% tint on them. (i tint windows for fun) The little guides that have the felt on them are starting to get worn out so I will ahve to pick some new ones up at the dealership and then retint the windows.

Other than that the interior is good! Probably could use another good detail so ill have to talk to the old boss and see if I can get in there in the spring...

    Performance/Suspension:
Here is the list of things I would like to buy before spring....

TUNE!!! I have yet to get a tune since the LT's, LS6 intake, ORY, and air/egr removal... has been installed. I am thinking FROST off of LS1tech.. heard he is pretty good!

SFC's (already have a someone that has a used set so I might be getting soon)
    LCA's
    ADJ Panhard bar
    Catch Can
Exhaust ran out the back - got a quote of "no more than $150" the guy told me lol... Currently its dumped just before the rear axle and it seems "janky" to me so I really want to get it ran out the back with a nice set of tips. This also probably wont be done until spring since the place is about 15min north of me and the car wont have insurance on it and it WONT be going to play in the snow. Or ditch rather....

Brakes... I was planning on getting the same brakes Larry went with
    http://www.mifbody.com/vbulletin/sho...akes+installed

But I am really worried about the drilled holes cracking since it will be my DD. I may just go with some stockers. But in the mean time mine are pretty warped.

Last spring I replaced the right rear axle bearing and axle, I was so relieved to get the annoying woahwoahwoahwoah noise coming from the rearend for the last 20,xxx miles be gone!!! lol.... Well halfway through the summer I am pretty sure the other side is shot now. So I should be getting a new stock axle from Jeff (DETROITMUSCLE) soon. Which then the rear end fluid is always good to replace quite often so that will be getting done too!

Over the summer I got my A/C to work... Then also got it to quit working after a week or so... So my buddy Dan (Little_Dan04) said I have a leak somewhere, so we recharged it again, put some dye in it and used the cool glasses and used the light but no sign of a leak. I sure hope it isn't coming from my heater core. Suggestions or thoughts here?

Tie rods and an alignment will be coming asap in the spring well ill get the tie rods done over winter but alignment the day it comes out.

I am sure there are other things that will come about but so far this is the winter goals... Thoughts? Suggestions? Anything?

Some random pictures as the car sits....

I actually like the salad shooters on there. They look way better on the LS1 cars than any LT1 car I've ever seen.

Thanks! This one will get done and before spring, compared to the 93, the whole reason I bought that car was because I could work on it when I had time and money. But this one (99) is priority.

Anybody that owns one of these cars, knows about "lists"...I think all dedicated fboders have one! Sounds like a decent amount of activity on her this winter....ahhhh, good times.

You know you have to lose the salad shooters, right? I know you plan on it, but make sure you lose the dumps too! Nice aftermarket exhaust...install it yourself (add it to the list, lol!!)

If you're looking for options for True Duals all the way back, this may be a good place to get some ideas:

                            http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/lt1-lt...cs-inside.html

This car is an LT1, but the gist of it ought to be the same. My setup is gonna be pretty close to this once it's done, just won't have the dual electric cutouts.

1996 Camaro Z28 cam, heads, stall, and a few other goodies

I was pulling to park it in the garage for the winter and my brother decided not to watch to see how far I could pull forward since it was a 57 point turn to get in in. Long story short box of tiles 1 camaro bumper 0

Pictures!!! - Sorry they are on the cell since I didn't have the Camera on me.
