01SS - Restored Project underway!

So for now, the dust has settled, we've racked up over 200 miles on the dyno, 3 dozen pulls and a shit ton of 5gal "fill-ups". All work done on a MD. According to the shop, they can count the number of N/A cars that hit 600 on one hand.....and those were purpose built 9sec race cars. We hit 614 @ 6600 with a torque peak of 540ft lbs. We hit 620, but was a little lean. It didnt like any more timing (19deg @ peak) or fuel.....thank-you Mast and Kinsler


As much as I hate the dyno debate and all the multiple variables in what makes what on what, it's nice to have some local perspective. Figure in drivetrain losses around 18% (ish) thru a 9", thru a full, dual 3" catted exhaust and its, IMO, fairly impressive for a N/A street build.


Regardless of the dyno bench racing debate, i know MPH will tell all. Wont matter though as I probably wont be able to drive it down a track to back it anyway, so who really gives a shit !!!!


Car is home now, getting things back in order to how it looked at SEMA over the next couple weeks and put some miles on it. Car is a blast, but still "raw". Needs some suspension and drivability tuning but first impression is its a nasty car. More to come....

Congrats on getting it done and hopefully getting to drive it to the store or something. Only taken years and more money than I could think of but its damn impressive and I cant imagine there are many like it running around.

We all thought the same and still thinking. Buddy with a 468 ITB runs around 25 @ peak. My intake/head combo is a little more efficient....AFR looks good all the way across. Plugs look good too....several during the process. Whatcha thinkin? Can't imagine another 50hp in there.... Btw, Lunati 24x....

hmm. if it runs leave it alone. maybe the reluctor isnt set right. Its not easy but you can pull #1 plug, find TDC and make a pointer with a coat hanger. then with an adjustable timing light and tuning software lock the timing at say 20 and then use the timing light to check it. will show if the wheel is off

Or maybe its a pretty efficient combo. I wont discount the possibility in what you're saying, but timing was played with at both shops - I understand the crank is the common denominator, but how can a half a dozen well versed LS guys miss something like that? At VSpeed, I dont think he ran it over 22 or 23deg - wasnt making any more power....here we ran it up to about 21 or 22 and made just as much at 19. Why not stay safe, right?

Timing issue. I, we, all that have been in touch with project are in total agreement it should be a few degrees higher. Waiting for engine cell timing info, but if I recall it was in the mid-20s. All those I've spoke with conceded that the possibility of heat in the cylinder not being "exhausted" seems to be the collective decision in approach. This intake and heads flow a shit ton of air and has be held up somewhere. So, the cats are coming out in place of a couple test pipes to run it again. God its gonna be loud....

Wont take place for another couple weeks yet, need to finish some cleanup and get some pics done first
