Im kinda pissed now, i found a switch under the dash by the hood puller thing, followed the wire all the way to the back where it went behind the back seat, come to find out some genious decided to cut the body up that goes over the gas tank to get to the fuel pump. Now i read on here that you shouldnt do this because it weakens the car too much, now we have to get a support brace for the back to try and restore the strength in the back.

well I do not think it will destroy that much integrity of the body to cut that tiny little hole , I think its actually smart in a way, 4th gen owners do it too, your not throwing tons of power to the drivetrain so I think your ok, I would use this time to get the pump working and put a regulator up front and hook it up the right way though, but you should be ok.99 Buick Regal GS- New DD

Its the trap door method to change the fuel pump. Leave it alone as it will come in handy down the road, cut a piece of sheet metal and JB weld it or seal it some way but so it can be removed again if needed. I would personally never do this on my car(3rd gen) but if I bought at car with it already done I would just leave it alone. 4th gens are completely different I would do a trap door in a 4th gen.sigpic

yea were going to leave it but i think were gonna put like a hinge on it and some kind of locking pin thing to keep it closed. I wouldnt do this to my car either but since its done already, owell. Sooner or later the car will have around 450+ HP thrown at it but were gonna do the whole suspension anyways96 BBB Impala SS-Fixed, Broke, Fixed again

i hooked the battery up on Wednesday, all the lights work, as do the windows. Cranked the motor to find TDC, so thats done. Dizzy and carb are bolted on now and now we need spark plug wires. We had a set but go figure a wire was missing. Brand new to thats what sucks. So yea, its pretty much ready to start but now we have a minor set back. When we take it to the shop to have the y-pipe welded up, it will be open headers FTMFW until then. Ill also get a video of the initial start up. Note: This will be the first time the car has ran in over 2 years, hell maybe 3 years!96 BBB Impala SS-Fixed, Broke, Fixed again

I wouldn't do that.....The idea behind sealing it closed with something like Darren suggested, is to keep exhaust/fuel fumes from entering the cabin area. You're going to want to seal it off tight somehow.West Michigan Pontiac Club

I had a trap door on my 94 camaro. I just used duct tape to seal it off and put the factory sound deadner over it, than the carpet. Good luck, Eric l
