  • did you measure/set throwout to clutch clearance? any non stock clutch needs to be checked

    Comment

    • I didnt, I put the shim in. but I assumed that was the problem.

Ill look up how to measure it.

Considering I put the ~1/4" shim in, have you ever had to put in more than that?

For refrence, the clutch is a trextralia twin disc with (I believe) .330" think iron discs.

I have a big mid term this week, so I really hope I have time to get this and my tune problem figured out before woodward/Back to bricks.

This BS seems too miniscule to keep me from the road. :/

      • measure from the block(bell surface to the pressure plate fingers. then remove the throwout bearing from the hydrualics and remove the spring. then put the bearing back on. push the bearing in and measure from the surface to the end of the bell

          • Well I got my cutouts welded on today. Now I just have to figure out my clutch issue... I may have to order a tick master... and Im waiting on fittings from summit.

            • an adjustable master just masks the real issue.

              • I measured. and with the shim, everthing is in spec... I dont get it... like I said the pedal pressure was NOT linear, but idk what that means.

Its not like I have a bunch of money to throw at it, so i wont get one if it wont help

                • I bought a new slave... comparing it to my old one... this one has twice the travel... My old one only compresses to about halfway... that seems like it would be helpful...

                  Measuring now I get;

Face of TOB to Face of Tranny: is 1.988"
PP Fingers to Face of Bell: is 2.661"

Has anybody ever had to use a .5"+ shim?

                  Or what is ****ed up?

Only thing I could think of is that the new disc's are too thick.. but I pulled it apart and the discs are correct.

Obviously this stupid problem kept me from woodward.

                  • did you pull the spring out?
shouldnt be able to compress it unless the bleeder is open

I did pull the spring both times.

I just went out the garage and pulled the bleeder on my old one, and i had to really push it to get it to compress, it felt like it was stuck. but it did fully compress..

so that explains the difference between the two slaves. (Im dumb)

but that still doesnt explain the big differences in the measurements.

Oh and thank you for all your help so far Larry.

                      • It seems as though my trans to throwout bearing measurement is right, but my trans to PP fingers measurement is to large...

The fingers did seem to be aimed inwards towards the motor. Not that I really know what its supposed to sound like though...

                        • did you word those measurements incorrect?
                          pp to engine block
                          TO to bell

                          • This is what I followed

                            http://ls1tech.com/forums/manual-tra...need-shim.html

Took me a few to realize the confusion. I am measuring with the Bellhousing bolted to the block still.

                              • Well the past few days, I have wasted a lot of time trying to figure out the problem and i finally found it.

clutch discs are .330" rather than .312"-314"

which pushed the clutch fingers in ~.5" causing my everything to be ****ed. Tired of problems....
